12 kV Cable Connector with Breakaway Screw Mechanism

The MSCL0252A00 screw-type connector is designed for joining aluminum and copper conductors in applications up to 12 kV. It utilizes a breakaway screw mechanism that eliminates the need for specialized tools during installation.

Construction and Materials

The connector body is made of aluminum alloy coated with a tin layer, preventing galvanic reactions between aluminum and copper conductors. The tin plating enables safe joining of different conductive materials.

Two M8 aluminum screws with a breakaway mechanism are used; they shear off at a specified torque, preventing over-tightening.

The compact design requires minimal installation space – dimensions are only 16×40×24 mm with a weight of 22 g. This feature is particularly important for larger conductor cross-sections and installations with limited space.

Versatility and Compatibility

The device supports a wide range of conductor cross-sections:

• Aluminum conductors: from 6 to 35 mm² (various strand types)
• Copper conductors: from 6 to 35 mm² (various strand types)

The connector is suitable for various conductor types: solid, stranded, sector-shaped, and round. Oil resistance and a central barrier ensure sealing against dielectric oil and provide separation of conductor strands.

Safety and Certification

The product meets the requirements of IEC61238-1 Class A, meaning it can be used in installations where high-intensity and long-duration short circuits may occur without risk of damage.

The screws are coated with a special anti-oxidant grease that protects against oxidation of the electrical contact and maintains stable contact resistance during operation.

The screw breakaway mechanism activates at a controlled torque, preventing both under-tightening and mechanical overload of the conductor.

Practical Application

The connector is used in electrical and industrial installations where high-intensity and long-duration short circuits may occur. Thanks to full waterproofing, it is suitable for installation both indoors and outdoors.

The MSCL series includes various models adapted to specific conductor cross-sections – from MSCL16 (1.5-16 mm²) up to MSCL300 (150-300 mm²), allowing precise selection of the device for a specific application.
