Fire-resistant power cable – safety and reliability
This electrical power cable, marked as NHXH FE180 PH90/E90 0.6/1 kV 3x2.5 RE in orange, is designed for installations requiring a high level of fire safety. The manufacturer, TECHNOKABEL S.A., has ensured the use of halogen-free materials that minimize the emission of toxic gases and smoke in case of fire. This is critical in public buildings, tunnels, hospitals, and other facilities where life and health protection is paramount.
This cable is intended for use in installations with a rated voltage of 0.6/1 kV and features a conductor cross-section of 2.5 mm², making it suitable for powering a wide range of electrical devices. The three-core construction enables connection to both single-phase and three-phase loads. The FE 180 insulation endurance guarantees reliable operation even under demanding operating conditions.
Construction and properties
The NHXH FE180 cable features a robust construction ensuring long-term and safe operation. Conductors made of soft copper strands (Class 1 or 2) are insulated with halogen-free compound, enhancing safety during fire events. The layered stranded conductors are surrounded by a halogen-free filling material, and the entire assembly is enclosed in an outer sheath made of HFFR (halogen-free flame-retardant) material, resistant to UV radiation. This construction provides resistance to mechanical damage and environmental factors.
A key feature is the E90 functionality – meaning the cable maintains electrical circuit continuity for at least 90 minutes under fire conditions, enabling the operation of critical safety systems (e.g., emergency lighting, fire pumps). Additionally, the cable includes a protective conductor to enhance operational safety.
Applications and standards
This cable is primarily used in fixed indoor and outdoor installations, as well as in protected areas equipped with fixed fire suppression systems. It may also be installed underground or underwater, provided additional protection against moisture is applied. It is an ideal solution for installations requiring high fire resistance and minimal emission of toxic substances during fire events.
The cable complies with EN 60332-1-2 (non-propagation of flame) and EN 50267-2-2 (halogen-free) standards. It holds a conformity certificate and approval from the Scientific-Research Center for Fire Protection – PIB in Józefów, confirming its high quality and safety for use.
