Wilo CIF-Modbus RTU communication module – integration with building automation

The CIF-Modbus RTU module is a plug-in accessory that enables connection of Wilo Stratos MAXO pumps to building automation systems (BMS) via the Modbus RTU serial interface and RS485 bus. This allows for remote reading of pump data, control of its operation, and integration with a central building management system. The module is compatible with Stratos MAXO/Stratos MAXO-Z/Stratos MAXO-D, Stratos GIGA2.0-I, Stratos GIGA2.0-D, Yonos GIGA2.0-I, Yonos GIGA2.0-D, Helix2.0-VE and Medana CH3-LE pumps.

Functionality and application

The CIF-Modbus RTU module transmits data in the form of control commands, pump status information, and process values. This enables monitoring and control of the pump from the BMS level, which translates into optimized energy consumption and increased efficiency of the entire heating or cooling system. The RS485 interface is optically isolated, ensuring reliable communication even over long distances of up to 1000 meters.

Installation and technical specifications

The module is designed for installation inside a pump equipped with a CIF interface. For correct operation, appropriately shielded RS485 bus cables (type B according to TIA 485-A) with a characteristic impedance of 120 Ω and a conductor cross-section of 1.5 mm² are required. Proper grounding of the RS485 bus is essential to ensure stable communication and minimize interference.

The RS485 interface (TIA-485A), optically isolated, ensures reliable communication. Supported transmission speeds are: 2400, 9600, 19200, 38400 and 115200 kbit/s. For correct operation, an RS485 bus cable of type B according to TIA 485-A with a characteristic impedance of 120 Ω and a conductor cross-section of 1.5 mm² is required. The maximum bus length is 1000 m. The net weight of the module is approximately 60 g.
