Integration with KNX system for Zehnder EVO ventilation

The Zehnder EVO Connect KNX module enables integration of Zehnder EVO devices with building automation systems based on the KNX protocol. This solution is specifically designed for both KNX system installers and end users seeking advanced control over their ventilation system. Note that the module requires cooperation with EVO Connect ModBus.

Functionality and application

The EVO Connect KNX acts as a converter, transmitting data between Zehnder EVO devices and the KNX bus. This allows monitoring of ventilation operating status, control of parameters (e.g., fan speed, operating mode), and direct reading of error messages via the KNX system. Communication is bidirectional—via RS485 (connected to the EVO Connect ModBus module) and through the KNX bus. This enables the creation of automation scenarios, such as increasing ventilation intensity upon detection of elevated humidity levels or high occupancy in a room.

Design and installation

The EVO Connect KNX module is designed for mounting on a standard 35 mm DIN rail. It features LED indicators showing Ethernet connection status and KNX programming status. Device configuration is performed using dedicated software SW67812 (available for download), which allows setting ModBus and KNX communication parameters, data mapping, and firmware updates. Before connecting the device, verify correct supply voltage and cable polarity. A DIP switch is provided to select operating mode—standard or programming/firmware update mode. The device includes an Ethernet port (RJ45) for configuration and an RS485 port for communication with the EVO Connect ModBus module. Triple thermal isolation is implemented between the KNX bus, power supply, and RS485 serial communication to enhance safety and operational reliability.
