What is ceiling heating?
Ceiling heating is a type of low-temperature surface heating, mounted directly in the ceiling. It can be based on various technologies (water, electric or infrared heating), which determine the construction of the heating system (heating mats, foils, tubes). Heat is generated by a large, flat surface, similarly to underfloor heating, but in the case of ceiling heating it is the ceiling.
The most important advantages of ceiling heating include:
- full discretion of the system and freedom in choosing finishing materials,
- more free space to be developed (no radiators),
- cleaner, allergy-friendly air thanks to the elimination of convection (no more dust being thrown up),
- effective and even distribution of warm air in the room,
- reliability and intuitive operation.
What types of ceiling heating are there?
There are 3 basic types of ceiling heating, differing in operating principles, operating methods and construction.
Electric ceiling heating uses special mats, panels and heating foils as well as small cables. It is very popular among investors. The system is operated by a thermostat. In modern models, the control of the installation is facilitated by a touch screen.
Water ceiling heating consists of pipes and tubes with water, which is heated by a central heating system, e.g. an ecological heat pump or a gas boiler, and then distributed to the installation elements. Water ceiling heating is less commonly used than the electric variant.
Infrared ceiling heating is an advanced, efficient and completely safe for health solution, using the phenomenon of infrared radiation to heat rooms. It is not the air that is heated, but objects, surfaces and people, who then give off heat. The system is based on specialist infrared heating mats or panels.
The choice of the type of ceiling heating should be made individually, taking into account primarily the installed or planned heat source. In practice, electric ceiling heating is most often used.
In what type of construction is it worth choosing ceiling heating?
