Who can obtain electrical construction permits?

Fuse base ETI EFH 10 DC 1p 002540201 People who want to obtain electrical construction licenses must meet a number of formal requirements contained in the Building Law. These licenses are granted by the Polish Chamber of Civil Engineers (PIIB). They determine the ability to design and manage construction works in the specialty of electrical installations and networks. Not everyone can start the process of obtaining this type of license. The interested party must meet the following criteria:

  • have an education: higher education in a field related to electrical engineering or electrical engineering,
    • or (alternatively) electrical at a technical school (only applies to applying for qualifications in a limited scope).
  • complete professional practice on a construction site for at least 1.5 years (exception: graduates of master's studies - then a practice lasting 1 year is required) or in the design of installations for at least 1 year.

If the above criteria are met, candidates may take the exam organized by PIIB. The exam consists of a written and oral part. Both theoretical and practical knowledge are tested.

What qualifications do you need to be an electrician?

Fuse switch Jean Müller 10X38 Z10-TL2/DC 1000V/EWK.GPV D8742602 In order to work as an electrician, you must have - in addition to building qualifications - the SEP qualification certificates required by law. These are so-called energy qualifications divided into three groups: G1, G2 and G3 (in the electrician profession, group G1 is sufficient). Additionally, within each group, you can obtain qualifications concerning the operation or supervision of electrical, gas and energy installations or devices. In order to obtain so-called SEP qualifications, you must pass an exam before a qualification committee.

With a SEP qualification certificate, we can be sure that we are legally practicing the profession of an electrician, power engineer or gas fitter. Additionally, with construction qualifications, we can perform a full range of activities including both the installation of electrical installations and the management of work on large construction projects. Thanks to this, installers can not only lay cables and wires , but also design complex electrical networks.

Do you need an AM2 qualification to be an electrician?

The AM2 exam (Assessment of Occupational Competence) confirms practical skills in the field of installation and maintenance of electrical systems, but in Poland it is not required.

For installers planning to work abroad, obtaining AM2 may be an additional advantage, but on the domestic job market, domestic certificates are the most important. Basic knowledge of electrical engineering and knowledge of modern electrical equipment is a pillar on which it is worth building your competences.

Electrical construction qualifications in a nutshell

  1. Obtaining electrical construction qualifications requires appropriate technical education, professional experience and passing an exam before the PIIB commission. They are necessary to design and supervise construction works related to electrical installations.
  2. At the same time, every electrician must have SEP qualification certificates, which authorize them to perform operational and supervision work in electrical installations. AM2 certificates, although valued abroad, are not required in Poland, where national qualifications and specialist knowledge count.
  3. Investing in professional development, acquiring qualifications and knowledge of modern solutions in the field of cables and wires, equipment and electrical engineering allows installers to meet the highest quality and safety standards.
