The final stage of the electrical installation is connecting the electricity meter to the power grid. The electricity meter provides individual billing for the energy used. The electricity meter can only be connected by a specialist with the appropriate qualifications. If you are an amateur and are connecting the electricity meter yourself, we will tell you how to do it correctly. However, you will still have to call a specialist who will check the installation and start the system.

What to remember when connecting wires to an energy meter?
Electricity meters should be connected according to the manufacturer's instructions. Make sure that the selected electricity meter is compatible with your electrical installation - it is primarily about the maximum current intensity. The first step in any electrical work is to cut off the flow of electricity. Try to choose certified energy meters from trusted manufacturers of electrical equipment to ensure that individual electricity consumption is measured with maximum precision.
In the process of connecting the electricity meter, it will be necessary to properly prepare the electrical switchboard. Remember that the electricity consumption meter should be connected by a qualified electrician. To interfere with the main electricity meter in the building, an additional authorization from the energy supplier will be required. Such consent is not required in the case of sub-meters mounted on individual devices and elements of the installation. To increase the level of protection against illegal energy consumption, the electricity meter can be sealed. It is also worth preparing an insulated screwdriver right away. You will need it for working on the cables.
Electricity meter connection diagram
Let's start by connecting a single-phase electricity meter. The phase wire L from the supply side should be inserted into the L IN terminal of the meter. Then, the phase wire L of the receiving part should be inserted into the L OUT terminal of the meter. The last step is to insert the neutral wire into the neutral terminal N of the meter.
The process of connecting a three-phase electricity meter is slightly more complex. In three-phase installations, there are wires with the symbols L1, L2 and L3 in different colors. The phase wire L1 from the power supply side should be inserted into the L1 IN terminal of the meter. An analogous operation is carried out for the phase wires L2 and L3 from the power supply side, inserting them respectively into the L2 IN and L3 IN terminals of the meter.
Now, the phase wires of the receiving part (L1, L2, L3) should be inserted into the terminals L1 OUT, L2 OUT and L3 OUT in turn. The neutral wire should be inserted into the neutral terminal N - it cannot pass through the meter. Finally, the electrical switchboard should be secured. Special seals are used for this.
