Electricity meter – what is worth knowing about it?

An electricity meter, or rather an electricity consumption meter, is an essential part of any installation. The basic task of this device is to measure the amount of electricity that flows through the system. This is the basis for determining the amount of the electricity bill – the meter readings then enable settlement between the energy supplier and its recipient.

The electricity meter indicates the total value of energy used by all devices in the building (of course, this applies only to devices that require connection to the power supply). It uses a special electronic system that, under the influence of the flowing current and the applied voltage, indicates pulses proportionally to the amount of electricity consumed.

Such an electronic electricity consumption meter displays data on the electricity consumed, expressed in kilowatt-hours kWh or megawatt-hours MWh (in the case of installations consuming significant amounts of energy, e.g. in industrial buildings). Monitored values are displayed on a digital liquid crystal screen.
