Why a septic tank hatch?
Each septic tank has an inlet that should be covered with a special cover to ensure the safety of pedestrian and car traffic . The strength of such a manhole often allows trucks and agricultural machinery to pass freely. Thanks to this, there is no need to specially fence or exclude the area with the septic tank from traffic. Manholes also require manholes to be used.
However, the hatch has more than just a protective function. The product provides quick and easy access to the interior of the septic tank, e.g. for cleaning, repairs or inspection. To look inside, simply lift and slide the cover. Of course, the entire structure is designed in such a way that small children cannot open the hatch.
Another role of the septic tank cover is to prevent unpleasant odors from escaping from the outside of the tank. A properly fitted hatch guarantees perfect tightness. Protection also works the other way round - no rainwater, soil, sand or other impurities can get inside, which could lead to the septic tank overflowing too quickly.
Types of septic tank hatches
The covers are available in various variants. The difference between individual models lies primarily in the base material. You can choose from manholes made of cast iron, concrete and plastic. Below we briefly describe the advantages and disadvantages of each of these solutions.
Cast iron septic tank covers offer maximum durability, resistance to loads of up to several tons and very high resistance to weather conditions. They are an aesthetic and solid alternative to popular concrete covers. Basically, a cast iron hatch has only two disadvantages: significant weight, which makes it difficult to operate by one person, and a relatively high price.
Concrete septic tank hatches are very popular due to their relatively low weight and low price. However, the concrete cover raises serious concerns regarding the effectiveness of access protection (it is quite easy to lift), resistance to loads above 0.5 tons and resistance to weather conditions.
Plastic septic tank covers are a modern, light and cheap alternative to cast iron and concrete models. Despite their low weight, they have a similar load capacity as cast iron manholes. Made of high-quality plastics (PVC, PP, PE), they are characterized by increased resistance to mechanical damage and weather conditions. The plastic cover does not rust, does not require impregnation, is easy to install and use and has an elegant design. Its surface often has anti-slip properties.
In terms of shape, we can distinguish a square manhole and a round manhole .
What should you consider when choosing a septic tank hatch?
The choice of a septic tank cover depends on the parameters of a specific tank and the factors to which the cover will be exposed at the place of operation. First of all, you should pay attention to the load class of the product. For example, the A15 manhole , i.e. with load class A-15, can be used in pedestrian and bicycle traffic routes and in green areas, including home driveways. When choosing a septic tank hatch, it is also worth taking a look at durability, ease of installation and operation, and - if this is important to you - aesthetic values.
