Why is it worth choosing the Zehnder ComfoAir Q heat recovery unit?
Zehnder ComfoAir Q units are specially designed for easy installation, both on the wall and on the base. During installation, the version can be changed from left to right. They provide full compatibility with other system components for air distribution. The modulating bypass allows for different temperature sensations to be taken into account, depending on the selected comfort temperature profile. The preheater optimises the operation of the device in the winter. In addition, there are key features for the user – a wide range of control variants, attractive design and quiet operation.
The housing made of galvanized and painted sheet steel has acoustic and thermal insulation. The device can be operated using the display on the device, via a mobile application on a smartphone or tablet, optionally via control panels (ComfoSense C or ComfoSwitch C) connected to the device via a 2x2x0.6 cable. In turn, using the KNX interface, the Zehnder ComfoAir Q device can be integrated into an intelligent building control system.

Modern technologies of Zehnder ComfoAir Q heat recovery units
The Zehnder ComfoAir Q ventilation unit recovers heat from exhaust air that is extracted outside and transfers it to the fresh air that is supplied to the individual rooms via channels. Importantly, the amount of air can be set individually for each room.
The main element of the device is a cross-counterflow heat exchanger, which allows for high heat recovery, even above 90%. The level of recovery depends of course on the size of the air flow, humidity level, internal and external temperature. The diamond-shaped heat exchanger has an exceptionally large surface area, thanks to which it allows for greater efficiency. Different channel heights ensure even flow and lower pressure losses. Thanks to this, less energy is needed to overcome air resistance.
It is worth using the optional Zehnder enthalpy exchanger (ERV), which also allows for moisture recovery from exhaust air. Air humidity at the right level not only provides comfort, but also prevents the formation of mold and other fungi, which are favored by excessive humidity. In winter, the exchanger will allow for up to 70% moisture recovery from exhaust air, increasing comfort in living spaces, which results in a real increase in humidity in rooms by approx. 10%.
In the summer, however, moisture is exchanged from the supply air to the exhaust air, which reduces humidity in the rooms and significantly increases the comfort of staying in the rooms. What's more, Zehnder ERV exchangers are made of a material that is resistant to the settlement and penetration of bacteria and fungi, does not allow odours to pass through, and can be cleaned with water.
Efficient ventilation with the Zehnder ComfoAir Q ventilation unit
Zehnder ComfoAir Q ventilation units are equipped with an automatically activated bypass, which, if necessary, directs the exhaust air flow outside the heat exchanger. On summer nights and during the transitional period, with strong sunlight, the building often becomes too warm, while the outside air is pleasantly cool. In this case, the cooler outside air is led directly to the air distribution system without heat recovery. The comfort temperature can be set. The modulating bypass reacts during operation depending on the optimum comfort temperature, which is determined based on information sent by the temperature and humidity sensors.
To ensure continuous operation of the unit even at lower outside temperatures, it is equipped with an integrated electric pre-heater. At temperatures that are too low, the frost protection system reduces the amount of air drawn in. It switches on and off automatically, and its power perfectly matches the amount of air flowing through. The heater heats the outside air, so that the condensate condensing inside the exchanger does not freeze. Triangular elements increase the heating surface, and the innovative design minimizes air flow resistance.

Quiet and energy-saving Zehnder ventilation units from the ComfoAir Q series
The unit is equipped with innovative and energy-saving RadiCal® radial fans from Ebm-papst for direct current, which reduce the sound level and lower energy consumption. The fans are equipped with a FlowGrid cover, which guides and optimizes the air flow and reduces the noise level.
The Q series units are equipped with humidity, pressure and temperature sensors for air flow optimization. Their measurements define the operation of the pre-heater bypass and depend on the current atmospheric parameters. The current measurements also define the relationship between the fan coefficient and air flow, and the fan can react smoothly to any change. However, the fan coefficient is corrected only for medium- and long-term fluctuations.
