Does a hood have to have a carbon filter?
There are various types of hoods available on the market. Some models, operating in the extraction mode, are connected to a ventilation duct or chimney flue, while others operate in closed mode (so-called absorber mode) - with a carbon filter. It is necessary for the device to work properly.
If you have an extractor in your kitchen, note that its pipe is not connected to the ventilation system. It is based on a carbon filter. Thanks to this, such equipment can be installed in any kitchen and in any place, e.g. above a kitchen island. It is worth knowing that practically all hoods are equipped with metal filters. The carbon filter complements the aluminum filter (it comes after it). An alternative to the carbon filter is a plasma filter.
How do you know when your hood carbon filter needs to be replaced?
The carbon filter for the hood wears out over time, so sooner or later it will definitely need to be replaced with a new one. Using a used filter reduces the efficiency of the absorber. Fortunately, this product is easily available and relatively cheap (costs a few dozen zlotys). How often should you replace the carbon filter in the hood? Most manufacturers recommend replacing the filter after 3-6 months of its installation.
It is generally recommended to replace it every 4 months. The lifespan of the product is influenced by its quality and the intensity of use of the hood. When you notice that the absorber is starting to work worse, e.g. cooking odours become more pronounced, last longer and are spread throughout the apartment, and water droplets start to run down the kitchen furniture, it means that the filter needs to be replaced. Some filters can be washed in a dishwasher, following the manufacturer's recommendations. As a rule, washing is done in an intensive cycle at a maximum temperature of 70°C, without using tablets/liquids.
Does a hood carbon filter absorb moisture?
Kitchen equipment , like bathrooms, is regularly exposed to moisture and high temperatures. Additionally, odors and grease particles, which are created during cooking and frying, are present in the kitchen. If odors, water vapor and oil particles are not quickly captured and absorbed, they will settle on furniture, surfaces and textiles, causing their destruction and difficult-to-remove odor.
That is why no kitchen can be without an efficient hood. If you are arranging a kitchen open to the living room and dining room, the parameters of the device, especially its efficiency, should be considered even more carefully.
