Underfloor cooling is an innovative solution, increasingly chosen as an alternative to air conditioning. Why is this happening? What are the advantages of underfloor cooling over traditional technologies?

Underfloor heating is not only useful in winter and autumn. The benefits of its installation can also be reaped on warm days. This will be possible thanks to the underfloor cooling system, which uses the same installation. Cooling rooms using underfloor heating is a convenient and efficient way to regulate the temperature in different weather conditions. What is worth knowing about this solution? How does the underfloor cooling system work? What are its advantages and disadvantages? We explain these issues in a new entry.
Can underfloor heating cool?
Floor cooling, also known as surface cooling, is an effective method of cooling rooms using a water floor heating system. By using a heat pump or special cooling devices, the floor is cooled by circulating water, providing thermal comfort even on hot days. The floor cooling system can therefore be an attractive alternative to air conditioning.

How does an underfloor cooling system work?
The operation of underfloor cooling is based on the circulation of water in a closed system located under the floor surface. There are two main methods of underfloor cooling: with or without the use of a heat pump.
In the first case, the pump can operate actively, i.e. pump heat in the opposite direction than in heating mode, or be switched off, with cooling taking place via water from the lower heat source. As for cooling without a heat pump, cold water is supplied to the floor, which can come from underground deposits or be cooled using dedicated equipment.
Advantages and disadvantages of underfloor cooling
Underfloor cooling is a solution that eliminates the phenomenon of cold airflow and problems resulting from the presence of microorganisms in ventilation ducts. This makes it healthier and more comfortable than traditional air cooling. It will be appreciated above all by allergy sufferers and people with reduced immunity, who often cannot stay in air-conditioned rooms. In addition, it is worth choosing underfloor cooling due to:
no need to use external units as in the case of air conditioning;
Possibility of use in buildings of various structures.
On the other hand, there are systems of this type that have some drawbacks. These include, first of all:
uneven distribution of cold (the coldest places are right next to the floor);
risk of moisture condensing on a cold floor;
the need to use complex control systems;
higher installation cost compared to traditional cooling methods;
the need to plan the installation at the design or renovation stage of the house.
Despite these limitations, floor cooling is a modern and effective solution. If you are looking for a technology that will provide comfortable conditions during hot weather, while also being safe in terms of health, it is worth taking a closer look.
