How many lashing straps should you use per load?
The answer to this question is not clear-cut. Each order is different, and security measures should be adapted to the different specifics and characteristics of the freight. However, there are guidelines that allow for calculating the appropriate number of transport belts. For this purpose, the PN-EN 12195-2 standard in force in the European Union should be cited here, which standardizes safety issues. The document presents the mechanism of construction and functioning of tools that allow for the elimination of all inertia forces that act on transported objects.
However, the formula proposed by the aforementioned standard is characterized by a considerable degree of advancement and requires taking into account, among other things, the coefficient of friction, but also the acceleration of gravity or the vertical acceleration coefficient! This makes the scheme difficult to use in practice. In such cases, it is worth using a simplified model. In this context, the required number of belts is the result of the equation, where the numerator contains the weight of the load multiplied by the acceleration coefficient minus the weight of the load multiplied by the friction coefficient - this is determined using special tables.
In the denominator, the number 2 should be multiplied by the friction coefficient and the vertical component of the belt tension force. The entire equation is multiplied by a factor resulting from the uncertainty of the belt tension force distribution. The result obtained is rounded up, thus obtaining the number of necessary belts. Is there an easier way?
Yes! Special tables have been designed for this purpose, which significantly facilitate work when securing goods. Then, it is enough to know the basic parameters, including the weight of the load, the angle of wrap and the coefficient of friction.
How to properly fasten seat belts?
Just knowing the required number of safeguards does not guarantee full safety. Transport belts require proper installation, which translates into the effectiveness of the installed safeguard.
Two-part straps consist of a long and a short part. The first element should be moved over the surface of the freight, and then the mounted hook should be hooked to a specially designed frame. This operation is also repeated for the short part.
The aligned end of the long belt section should be inserted into the tensioner drum gap located at the edge of the short belt section. It is necessary to tension the belt and then work the tensioner to wind the belt. The recommended interval is at least 1.5 turns to 3 turns. The final step is to close the tensioner and properly secure the loose belt section.
How many tons can a conveyor belt hold?
To obtain information on the strength of the strap, look at the label of the lashing belt. It is the mysterious symbol LC, or lashing capacity, that determines the lashing capacity for individual products. LC therefore informs about the maximum load of the strap that can be used. It should be emphasized that this parameter depends on the lashing technique, but the presented values are dedicated to a simple system. In practice, a lashing belt with an LC range of 2500 daN is designed to secure a load in a simple system up to 2500 kg.
