Electric bathroom radiators provide thermal comfort in bathrooms, play an important decorative role and work well as hangers for wet towels. These types of radiators are powered electrically, i.e. they require connection to a socket, not to the central heating system like traditional water radiators. As is often the case with modern solutions, electric radiators raise many questions among buyers. One of them concerns the issue of safety. Is an electric bathroom radiator safe? Of course - provided that the rules of use are followed and a certified device is selected.

What certificates and standards must an electric heater meet?
Bathroom radiators and all other types of radiators that are to be introduced to the Polish market must meet the requirements of specific standards and legal regulations for construction products. Provisions strictly relating to radiators can be found in such legal acts and documents as:
- Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2011 laying down harmonised conditions for the marketing of construction products and repealing Council Directive 89/106/EEC;
- Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) No 568/2014 of 18 February 2014 amending Annex V to Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the assessment and verification of constancy of performance of construction products;
- standard PN-EN 442-1:2015-02 Radiators and convectors. Part 1: Technical requirements and conditions;
- standard PN-EN 442-2:2015-02 Radiators and convectors. Part 2: Thermal output and test methods.
Each radiator has a product label that contains key information about the device, such as type, dimensions, purpose, installation conditions and data confirming compliance with the required standards and regulations. From the point of view of both safety and ecology, the following are of key importance:
- sign of approval for sale and use in construction;
- CE mark – is the manufacturer’s declaration that the radiator meets the requirements of European Union directives (conformity assessment system requirements) in the field of safety of use and environmental protection.
The CE symbol may be placed not on the label, but directly on the product. The CE mark should be supplemented with the number and date of issue of the declaration of conformity. The warranty period provided by the manufacturer says a lot about the long-term reliability of an electric heater, and therefore about its safety.
How to increase safety when installing an electric heater?
In order to increase the safety of the installation, the manufacturer's recommendations (in particular the guidelines contained in the warranty document) and generally accepted technical principles should be followed. First of all, an electric heater installed in a bathroom, i.e. in a wet room, should be located at an appropriate distance from water sources, i.e. outside the so-called protection zone (above 60 cm, e.g. from the edge of a bathtub or shower).
Maintaining a safe distance from sanitary equipment also helps protect the radiator from damage caused by contact with chemicals used to clean ceramics. In addition, the radiator should not be installed under a ventilation grille, so as not to lose heat. Fortunately, a key advantage of electric radiators is the freedom of installation, which means that they can be installed anywhere, provided that a power source is available.
The Safest Electric Radiators for the Bathroom
Modern electric heaters are generally safe to use, because manufacturers equip them with advanced security systems, e.g. against overheating. It is worth choosing energy-saving electric heaters with appropriate safety certificates, covered by a warranty period of several years, from trusted manufacturers.
