Which sink to choose for the kitchen?

With the spread of dishwashers - once viewed with envy in American movies, and then long considered a luxury due to high prices - the function of the sink has changed over the years . Today, two-chamber models are in retreat, because moving from one chamber to another while washing is usually just a memory. The sink has become a place where you can quickly rinse individual dishes and cutlery, or it serves as a "buffer" between the use of kitchen utensils and their visit to the dishwasher. It is just a parking place for pots, cups and plates, where they wait for their turn in the "bathing chamber". There's nothing wrong with that, it's just that the kitchen has changed, and with it the function of an honest sink. As a consolation, let's say that it's not going away completely - it's still hard to imagine preparing meals without access to the chamber and the tap. The dishwasher certainly won't steal the show here.

Granite sink in the kitchen countertop under the window The form changes along with the function. Steel sinks, which were fashionable and desirable several years ago and took the market by storm in the 1990s and the turn of the century, replacing traditional enameled models, are now behind them . Today, they are replaced by granite conglomerates - aesthetic, practical, and affordable. In terms of appearance, they offer much greater possibilities than the "quark" (you can choose and choose in shapes and colors), they give the impression of a more sophisticated product (maybe not luxurious anymore, because they are more and more common) and they do not cost a fortune. However, it is worth being vigilant and sensible when choosing, not focusing solely on the price criterion - there are also granite-like sinks available on the market, with a reduced content of real granite. They cost less, but at the price of quality.

However, a modern sink does not begin or end with the bowl, drainer and faucet spout. The choice of accessories is dizzying and makes the possible number of final configurations virtually endless. Cutting boards , drainers, baskets, holders and stands for cleaning agents, extended spouts and dishwashing liquid dispensers integrated into the bowl allow you to tailor the sink and its surroundings, adapting its functionality and aesthetics to the needs and expectations of users. The only limitation is the budget, but even if you don't have a bag of money at your disposal, you can afford an arrangement that perfectly suits your taste.

A solution that is quickly gaining popularity are drain grinders. They allow you to shred leftovers, thus preventing waste from accumulating in sewage pipes . In the era of waste segregation and increased concern for the natural environment, grinders prove to be irreplaceable, eliminating the need to use aggressive chemicals to clean clogged siphons. Less residual waste also means a reduced risk of uninvited guests such as cockroaches, which is why grinders are the latest trend in kitchen sink fashion.

Where is the best place to install the sink

The place where the sink is installed is determined primarily by the location of the water intake. While when building a house you can allow yourself more freedom in this respect and control the project in such a way that the sink is under the window (if you so wish, of course), in blocks of flats (especially older ones) there is usually much less room for maneuver. Assuming that we are not dependent on the existing arrangement and imposed development conditions, what should we choose? Does a sink under the window really make sense?

On the one hand, yes, because this solution ensures use in daylight, without the need to turn on artificial lighting when the sun is shining outside the window. However, since dishwashers have become practically basic kitchen equipment and people don't spend as much time washing up as they used to, the location in relation to the window is not as important as it was a few years ago. Moreover, installing the sink right next to the glass that is susceptible to splashes may simply be impractical . If necessary, it is worth considering choosing a faucet that can be fully removed and laid flat to allow the window to be opened. In a word: it is important that the advantages do not overshadow the disadvantages.

It seems more important than the proximity to the window that the sink is not far from the dishwasher. If the sink is to act as a temporary "storage room" (e.g. between the end of a family meal and the start of the washing cycle), proximity to an "automatic dishwasher" is more than advisable . Especially if the dishes need to be rinsed before putting them in - a sink located far from the dishwasher would mean splashing the kitchen floor and additional work, which we would rather avoid.

If space in the kitchen is not a problem and we can afford to arrange it according to our own ideas and not adapt to the existing conditions, it is worth considering locating the sink a bit out of the way . Since it is a "waiting room" for dirty dishes, maybe it is better that it is not the first thing that catches the eye after entering the room. We're just giving you a hint...
