What is a magnetic filter?

Magnetic filter   for boilers is a device used in heating systems to remove magnetic impurities from the water that is used to power the boiler. The magnetic filter works by using magnets to trap and retain metal particles such as rust, sediment or filings that may be present in the boiler water system.

This type of contamination can cause blocked valves, damage to heat exchangers, and even reduce the efficiency of the entire system.   Magnetic filter   it is installed on the water line in front of the boiler, so that the flowing water passes through the magnetic system.

Magnets in the filter attract and retain dirt particles. Magnetic filters are often equipped with a tank where contaminants collect, allowing them to be easily removed during maintenance.

Benefits of using magnetic filters for boilers:

  • Increasing the efficiency of boiler operation by preventing dirt from settling on the surface of the heat exchanger.

  • Reduction of system breakdowns and damage, which leads to lower repair and maintenance costs.

  • Extending the life of the boiler and other system components.

  • Improving the quality of heat supplied to the heating installation.

Magnetic filter   for boilers can be used in various types of boilers, such as gas, oil, coal or biomass boilers. However, it is important to adapt the filter to the appropriate technical parameters and water flow in a given heating system.

Before purchasing and installing a magnetic filter for a boiler, it is recommended to consult a specialist or manufacturer to select the appropriate model and size of the filter that will meet the requirements of a specific heating installation.

How to install a magnetic filter?

Installing a magnetic filter to a boiler requires certain knowledge and skills.

You can make the assembly work easier by dividing it into individual stages:

  1. The magnetic filter should be mounted on the boiler feed pipe, usually close to the pump or control valve;

  2. Before starting installation, the boiler must be disconnected from the power supply;

  3. The magnetic filter should be selected taking into account the parameters consistent with the dimensions of the boiler supply pipe. The filter should meet the requirements in accordance with the boiler manufacturer's recommendations;

  4. In the place where the filter is installed, remove a section of the boiler supply pipe. This section must be straight and without bends;

  5. A non-return valve (if not already installed) is attached to the boiler feed pipe, followed by a magnetic filter. Threaded or compression fittings are usually used for this purpose;

  6. After checking the installation for tightness, possible leaks can be eliminated using sealing tape or glue;

  7. The work ends with removing air from the system (venting).

After completing the installation and bleeding, the boiler should be started and the magnetic filter should be installed correctly.

Cleaning the magnetic filter

Cleaning the magnetic filter in boilers is necessary to maintain the proper functioning of the boiler and ensure optimal efficiency of the heating system.

  • After turning off and immobilizing the heating system,   locate the magnetic filter installed in the boiler . Most often it is located on the return valve or a short distance from the boiler. It may take the form of a cylindrical container with inlet and outlet tubes;

  • The inlet and outlet valves on the magnetic filter should be closed. This will prevent water from flowing out during cleaning;

  • There should be a drain valve at the bottom of the magnetic filter . It is used to drain the water accumulated inside the magnetic filter; flow freely from the filter;

  • Unscrewing the magnetic filter housing will allow you to gain access to the inside of the tank . The magnet should be removed and cleaned of any buildup. The next step will be to pour water from the drain valve to rinse the remaining dirt from the magnetic filter. If the filter is heavily dirty, you can rinse it under running water or use specialized cleaning agents;

  • After cleaning the magnet and rinsing the filter, install the magnet in the tank and close the filter housing;

  • Opening the inlet and outlet valves on the magnetic filter will restore water flow.

After making sure that everything is assembled correctly, you can turn on the boiler room to check whether the magnetic filter is functioning properly.

How often should the magnetic filter be replaced?

The frequency of replacing the magnetic filter in boilers may vary depending on the specific boiler model, the type of heating installation and the quality of water supplied to the boiler. It is recommended to regularly check and maintain the magnetic filter at least once a year or even more often, especially if there is frequent accumulation of dirt in the heating system.

One of the elements of ensuring high efficiency of your heating system is to purchase a magnetic filter from a reputable company that values customer satisfaction and its own brand.

In case of doubts or to obtain more detailed information, it is worth consulting the supplier, service or manufacturer of the boiler.
