Installation modernization? Choose a thermostatic valve

Added: Tuesday, 11/2/2021

Better performance, energy efficiency and higher comfort of use are the most important benefits resulting from the modernization of installations. To achieve them, installers and investors usually choose solutions that are easy to install and cost-effective. One of the most popular thermostatic mixing valves that combines these features and works without a controller is the ESBE VTA320 valve.

The selection and installation of a thermostatic mixing valve requires prior consideration on the part of the installer. A valve that is the same size as the connections ("tailored" to the installation) will not always meet the installation requirements. The key issue that should always be taken into account is, among others: Kvs value (flow rate through the valve at a pressure loss of 1 bar) expressed in m3/h..

The optimal decision

Kvs is a parameter that determines whether a given product will work in a modernized installation (e.g. one with underfloor heating or additional sanitary fittings). The flow rate and control accuracy are influenced by differences in the design and construction of the valve.

ESBE VTA322 and ESBE VTA522 valves are similar only at first glance. In the cross-sections showing the flow directions of hot and cold water, you can see that the valves differ in the size of the gaps. And it is the size of the gaps that determines that both types of VTA have different flow rates and are suitable for various applications - from small residential areas with underfloor heating (up to 65 m 2 ) to large houses (130 m 2 ).

Effects of improper valve fit

The effects of improperly matching the valve to the nature of the installation will be felt by the user. If the installer oversizes the valve, mixing temperature control will be less accurate. On the other hand, if the valve turns out to be too "weak", the heating system will be inefficient (the rooms will be underheated and heating costs will be high).

In the proper selection of a valve, knowledge of both the installation and available solutions plays a key role. In this case, ESBE tools (e.g. "Guide") may be helpful and help determine the correct valve size.
