Thermal modernization of single-family houses is becoming increasingly popular, due to the benefits and savings it brings. Insulation of the building and reduction of heat loss, among other things, allows saving on heating costs and reducing the level of CO2 produced . At the same time, by modernizing the building in which we live, we contribute to environmental protection. No wonder that more and more people choose it. However, not everyone knows that there are many ways to finance not only photovoltaics, but also heat pumps. If you want to learn more, we cordially invite you to read our article.
From this text you will learn:
- what changes have occurred in the "Clean Air" program,
- what thermal modernization relief is applicable in PIT for heat pumps,
- what are the regional funding programs for thermal modernization,
- what ecological heat pumps you will find in Onninen.
Thermal modernization - what's all the fuss about?
In Poland, we can still find single-family houses that have no insulation or are insufficiently insulated. The lack of proper building insulation causes large heat losses through leaks in the building, and therefore a much greater demand for heat energy than in a house with proper insulation. This in turn automatically results in higher bills and greater carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. This is why we talk about thermal modernization - a process as a result of which the demand for heat energy in a building will be reduced .
In the Act on Supporting Thermal Modernisation and Renovations we can read that the effects of this process must be:
- reducing the amount of energy used to heat utility water and home heating,
- reducing heat losses to which the building could previously be exposed,
- change or repair and modernization (upgrade) of the heat (energy) source.
This process has gained popularity with the launch of the government's "Clean Air" program, which provides homeowners with the opportunity to receive subsidies.

How is thermal modernization carried out?
Don't worry in advance - the process of insulating a building does not have to mean a major renovation right away. Nevertheless, it is worth remembering that replacing the heating device or window frames may not be enough. Therefore, try to take care of the following stages of thermal modernization of your home:
- Use a thermal insulation system that will seal the walls. This will prevent warm air from escaping from the interior of the house in the winter, and warm air from entering from the outside in the summer.
- Insulate ceilings and floors to minimize the possibility of heat escaping.
- Look at the windows and doors, replace the joinery if necessary. Make sure there are no thermal bridges.
- After introducing new thermal conditions, adjust the power of the heating system to them.
Clean Air Program - latest changes 2021
The Clean Air government funding program, introduced in 2018, has met with great interest. It will not end until 2030 - no wonder its rules are still evolving. Here are the latest changes that were introduced in May 2021:
- Grants are awarded to people applying for thermal modernization in the scope of:
replacement with single or double function gas boilers, pellet and electric furnaces and heat pumps, replacement of windows and doors, insulation of walls, ceilings, roofs, installation of heating mats, solar collectors,
- Coal boiler subsidies have been withdrawn - the purchase and installation of a coal boiler under the "Clean Air" subsidy program will only be possible until December 31, 2021. Coal boilers will be subsidized provided that the application for subsidy for this heat source is submitted by December 31, 2021 and the boiler is also purchased by that date and an invoice for the purchase and installation is issued.
- The level of subsidy has been increased - for single-person households, the income threshold will increase to 175% of the lowest pension, i.e. to PLN 2,189.04 ( approx. PLN 229 higher than currently ). For multi-person households, the income threshold will be set at 125% of the lowest pension per person, i.e. to PLN 1,563.60 ( approx. PLN 164 more than currently ). The increase in income thresholds will be effective from July 1, 2021 , i.e. after the appropriate provisions have been made in the "Clean Air" program.
PIT tax relief in connection with thermal modernization of a building
Not everyone realizes that when filling out the annual tax return, you can apply for a tax relief due to the thermal modernization works carried out . The tax relief in connection with the thermal modernization of the building must be added to the annual PIT settlement. To do this, you must fill out the PIT/O attachment, which is submitted to the tax office together with the PIT form. This attachment contains the line "Expenses for the implementation of the thermal modernization project", in which you can enter a deduction from income for a maximum amount of PLN 53,000 . The deduction should include expenses incurred in the period of 3 years from the end of the year in which the thermal modernization of the building was started. You should also remember to have all invoices related to the thermal modernization. Only on their basis will the relief be taken into account.
Regional programs and municipal subsidies for thermal modernization
Thanks to regional, municipal programs, it is possible to obtain funding for replacing the heat source, insulating external walls and roof, as well as installing solar collectors, heat pumps and replacing windows and doors of the building. Funds for this purpose can be obtained from various sources, such as, among others , EU grants, the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, government programs (such as the above-described "Clean Air"). Each municipality and region adopts its own program, therefore the size of the subsidy may vary depending on where we live.
Financing for heat pumps from 2021
A heat pump is one of the most economical ways of heating a building and providing domestic hot water. When choosing this system, you have to reckon with considerable expenses. The average cost of installing a heat pump is around PLN 40,000. Although the entire undertaking pays for itself after approx. 7-10 years of use, not every investor has the necessary funds for such a large investment. Fortunately, starting this year, you can apply for co-financing for heat pumps under the "Clean Air" program. The maximum amount of subsidy for a heat pump is PLN 20,000 . It is worth bearing in mind that the maximum amount of subsidy will vary depending on the specific categories of eligible costs.
Subsidies for heat pumps can also be obtained by applying for a tax relief. It is also worth familiarizing yourself with projects that are being implemented in a given commune, district or province.

Heat Pumps - Recommended Models
You already know that heat pump subsidies are within reach, but you don't know which heat pump to choose? In our wholesale store you will find, among others, new generation air-to-water split heat pumps - Magis Pro V2 from Immergas. These are devices that use air for heating, cooling and production of domestic hot water. They can successfully replace other heat sources, such as coal or pellet boilers. Modern technology makes these devices work efficiently even at very low temperatures down to -25 0 C. Magis Pro V2 pumps also have the highest energy efficiency class A++, thanks to which they are subject to increased subsidies in the "Clean Air" program.
Another solution, especially for those who want to heat their home wisely and ecologically, are hybrid heat pumps. This system uses at least two independent heat sources, which makes it more convenient to use. Above all, it is more economical and ecological. The new generation of hybrid heat pumps - Magis COMBO V2 from Immergas is a combination of two effective heat sources in one device: a condensing gas boiler and a SPLIT air-to-water heat pump.
Both heat pump models are extremely ecological because they use a renewable source, which is air, and thanks to the use of the latest R32 refrigerant, they are also environmentally friendly. In addition, their high efficiency is confirmed by the manufacturer's warranty of up to 5 years.
The automation used in the heat pumps allows for the control of 2 independent heating zones (including one with a mixer). This means that the heat pump normally cooperates with, for example, underfloor heating and supports radiators. In addition, the pumps have the possibility of expanding the service to 3 heating zones and are adapted for direct connection of a domestic hot water tank, thanks to the built-in 3-way valve. The pumps can also be purchased in sets, thanks to which we gain an integrated heating system from one manufacturer.
