The inspection door must be of such a size as to precisely cover a square or (less frequently) rectangular opening in the wall, one of the sides of which can measure from 15 cm to even 60 cm. The opening itself should be large enough not only to be able to check the tightness of the elements or read the meters, but also to diagnose a possible failure, freely replace seals, clean pipes, repair damaged valves using tools, etc. As time passes, everyone will have to perform maintenance work on the installation, so it is worth making access to its most critical parts as easy as possible.

Division of inspection doors according to the material used
Inspection doors are mainly made of stainless or galvanized steel, aluminum or durable plastic, e.g. ABS or PVC. The type of material affects not only the price of the door (metal models are more expensive), but above all its properties, and therefore its intended use. Cheaper plastic inspection doors can cover pipes, valves and other installation elements in places where difficult conditions do not prevail or special protection is not required. For example, for chimney cleaning, durable and corrosion-resistant metal inspection doors are recommended. Such properties are exhibited by, among others, stainless steel and galvanized steel. Metal covers most often cover particularly important, sensitive or live installation elements. If it is necessary to provide protection against access by unauthorized persons (e.g. in stairwells in apartment blocks), a locking function is necessary.
The material also affects the visual value of the cover. The most discreet effect is provided by flush-mounted inspection doors with additional filling. They allow for gluing tiles, covering with paint or finishing with another material (e.g. wood), which allows for aesthetic integration of the door into the wall surface and the overall arrangement - bathroom, hall or even living room.
