Damage to linear drainage is a highly problematic situation. Replacing it is usually associated with partial or complete cutting off of access to the building and excluding the facility from use for the duration of the renovation. Fortunately, a damaged drainage system can be quickly and easily replaced. How? Prefabricated aprons will allow this. Learn more about them!
From the article you will learn:
- what does traditional linear drainage installation look like?
- how to speed up the process of replacing or installing drainage in an existing facility,
- what can be gained by using linear drainage with prefabricated reinforced concrete casing (abutment),
- where can you find such realizations.
Linear drainage – advantages
Effective drainage of rainwater that accumulates over a large area offers many benefits. It helps avoid problems such as the formation of large puddles, flooding and dampness of the building, which cause discomfort and have many unpleasant consequences.
Linear drainage systems are more effective than point drainage and sewage drainage. What's more, it is an inexpensive solution if we take into account the total cost of the drainage network.
The grids used in them are resistant to the harmful effects of frost and salt. They do not require cleaning or maintenance of the network - special profiling offered by manufacturers makes it much easier to keep them clean. Such systems also cope well with minimal differences in the terrain, so their installation is not demanding.

Linear Drain - Construction
The construction of a linear drainage system consists of two elements: a channel and a grid. The channel is usually made of polymer concrete. This is a material made of concrete with an admixture of resin and granular quartz or possibly fiber concrete.
What is the grate responsible for? It is protection for the trough. The grate is most often made of artificial materials resistant to mechanical damage, harmful atmospheric factors, and chemical substances. Most often, you can find grates made of steel and cast iron.
What does traditional linear drainage installation look like?
Traditional installation of linear drainage takes a lot of time. It can take from several days to even a few weeks. It requires preparing an excavation, substructure, formwork, concrete footing, concrete side casing of the drainage for the needs of the drainage channel. Then comes the time of concrete curing, which takes 28 days to reach its full target strength. Then you can start finishing the adjacent surface.

Linear drainage - step by step installation
How does the installation of a linear drain proceed step by step? First, prepare a trench of the appropriate width. This will provide the possibility of creating a concrete cover, which depends on the class of the drainage channel. The second step is to lay the channel right next to the created trench, and then install the prepared channel at the beginning and end of the closing wall. The next step is to connect the points that drain water to the sewage system.
This is not the end. In order for the linear drain to be installed correctly, the grates must be mounted to the channels and protected from dirt by concrete, and then their walls must be encased in concrete. Particular attention must be paid to filling the space under the tiles thoroughly. Then, the grates and the surface inside the channel and drains must be cleaned of dirt. The grates must also be secured with fasteners and the elements of the channel line must be sealed with special material.
After completing all these activities, the linear drainage is ready for use. Such a time of work does not interfere during the construction of a new facility, where various construction works are time-consuming and appropriately planned at the construction stages. In the case of installation of systems on existing and operating facilities, the use of faster solutions is required. What kind? Functional reinforced concrete casings come to the rescue.

How to speed up the process of replacing or installing drainage in an existing facility?
Reinforced concrete casings (bands) are used to speed up the work related to replacing or installing linear drainage. These are the most time-consuming elements of the system, which in this case are prepared in advance, in factory conditions. Thanks to this, they only need to be arranged in accordance with the design, which results in a much faster installation process. Using such a solution allows for the rapid replacement of linear drainage in places with high traffic, where the pace of renovation work is of strategic importance.
What can be gained by using linear drainage with a prefabricated apron?
Naturally, the installation of linear drainage using reinforced concrete casing (abutment) translates into time savings. The implementation time is shortened from a few weeks, which a traditional channel system requires, to even a few hours! This is not the only advantage of this innovative solution. It is also worth mentioning its durability, which guarantees many years of drainage operation without the risk of premature wear of the abutment. This is a system resistant to heavy vehicular traffic and the high loads associated with it. Unlike the drainage installation performed on the construction site in variable weather conditions, prefabrication provides high quality and repeatability. The drainage is always produced in the same, controlled conditions of temperature and air humidity.
Linear drainage made of reinforced concrete casing ensures the safety of using the facility. What is more, the rapid time of their installation or replacement translates into actual financial savings. The building does not have to be shut down for the duration of the renovation, so it can fulfill its current functions without any disruptions. This is an innovative solution that is worth using!
Where can you find linear drainage systems with prefabricated casing?
The Hauraton brand can boast of drainage projects using prefabricated system elements. One of its projects of this type was the renovation of Karmelicka Street in Krakow. Residents remember the works very well, which stopped tram and car traffic for over a year along Bronowicka, Podchorążych and Królewska Streets. The linear drain was qualified for renovation outside the tender, so it required extremely efficient action on the part of the contractor. As a result, approximately 400 running meters of drainage were replaced in just a few months. An additional challenge was to ensure the system had the level of durability appropriate for one of the main streets in the city center.
Hauraton linear drainage was also installed at the BP petrol station in Kołbaskowo. This is where one of the main border crossings in western Poland is located. Intensive traffic around the clock translated into difficulties in the renovation. For obvious reasons, the facility could not be closed for the duration of the works. That is why prefabricated products proved so helpful, allowing for the efficient execution of the project. The innovative system of channels covered with grids translated into reduced complications related to the renovation.
Another noteworthy investment was the renovation of the channels in the taxi parking lot at the Fryderyk Chopin Airport in Warsaw. The intensity of traffic in this area reaches even several thousand cars per day. Therefore, channels were needed that would withstand such a large load and, in addition, would be installed very quickly. Selecting the appropriate hydraulic parameters also proved to be a challenge. As a result, channels with an integrated clamp were used for the renovation of the system, which resulted in easy replacement and quick work.
Prefabricated channels ensure trouble-free installation of the drainage system
As you can see, when installing or replacing a linear drain, it is best to use prefabricated concrete bands. Channels of this type translate into real savings and increased system capabilities. Installing a linear drain is much easier with them!
