R290 – the natural refrigerant in Bosch heat pumps

Added: Friday, 9/13/2024

The new generation of Bosch air heat pumps is based on the efficient refrigerant R290 (propane). Home heating rethought: Compress 5800i AW and Compress 6800i AW.

Refrigerant R290 in Bosch heat pumps

The natural refrigerant R290 (propane) is used in heat pumps, among other things. Propane does not contribute to the destruction of the ozone layer and has a low global warming potential. Therefore, R290 is considered a sustainable refrigerant. The Global Warming Potential (GWP) measures the effect of refrigerants on global warming.

Natural refrigerant R290 Bosch R290 has a very low GWP of 3. The higher the value, the greater the greenhouse effect. Unlike fluorinated hydrocarbons, natural propane is not subject to F-gas regulations and has a lower impact on global warming, making it a more future-proof refrigerant.

Bosch propane heat pumps are characterized by high efficiency. Another advantage, especially when modernizing heating systems, is that the R290 refrigerant in the propane heat pump reaches a higher flow temperature. The high-temperature heat pump delivers high-temperature heat to the building, making it ideal for heating modernized houses where it is not possible to replace the heat distribution system. Such a heat pump can be effectively used in combination with a high-temperature heat distribution system.

Simply future-proof and efficient heating with the quietest Bosch heat pump

The Compress 5800i AW and Compress 6800i AW air-source heat pumps with the natural and environmentally friendly refrigerant R290 are distinguished by their high efficiency thanks to a SCOP coefficient of up to 4.6 (for A7/W35).

BOSCH Compress 6800i AW heat pump cross-section Compressors in Compress 6800i AW and Compress 5800i AW heat pumps operate in inverter technology, which allows for modulation of heating power, thanks to which they adapt to the current heating demand of the building. They achieve energy class A++ for temperatures of 55°C and A+++ for 35°C. They also have the HP Keymark certificate and are manufactured in Europe.

Consistently well thought-out design for sound emission – the Compress 5800i AW and Compress 6800i AW heat pumps with integrated sound diffuser are the quietest Bosch heat pumps. The sound level of just 42 dB(A)* in daytime (normal) mode is barely perceptible and does not disturb users or their neighbours – even in terraced housing estates. At a distance of three metres, the sound pressure level is just 26 dB(A)**, which is roughly equivalent to the rustling of leaves in a forest.

Monoblock with high flow temperature up to 75°C and flexible options for easy installation

Bosch Compress 6800i AW and Compress 5800i AW heat pumps – the right solution can be installed quickly and easily for every application. The unique concept of the indoor units "All-in-One" and "Plug & Play" enables flexible and quick installation in both new buildings and modernisations.

Comparison of Bosch heating solutions BOSCH Compress 5800i AW Compress 6800i AW

The first version of the indoor unit - All-in-one (M) is equipped with a 170-litre hot water tank, a buffer tank and a number of other components that do not require subsequent assembly and at the same time save space. This solution can be used for both new and existing buildings.

The second version of the internal unit is Plug&Play (MB), which can be dedicated to existing facilities. It is equipped with a 70-litre buffer, which ensures correct operation of the device with the existing heating system, where the water supply is small, e.g. radiators. The height of the pump is limited to 1.2 m, which allows for installation in lower rooms, e.g. basements.

Simply Fexible (E) is the third version of the internal unit, which, unlike the two previous standing ones, is wall-mounted. The name itself suggests that this is the most flexible version for installation. The use of this version allows for virtually any configuration of the heating system with: any DHW tank, any buffer tank and any number of heating circuits (maximum 4).

In the Compress 6800i AW and Compress 5800i AW heat pumps, the supply temperature is up to 75°C. This parameter allows for the effective use of these heat pumps also in facilities where the heating system requires it, i.e. most often in older buildings requiring modernization.
