Secure sealing of the telescopic pipe: pipe collar

Added: Tuesday, 4/9/2024

The construction of modern PVC sewage manholes includes several main elements. They may differ depending on the manufacturer and system, but the basic parts are usually similar. So we have a base - a base that connects to the pipeline, a riser pipe (also called a riser) and a telescope with a telescopic pipe, a hatch and a sleeve with a seal. What is a sleeve? Why is it worth using? And which pipe sleeve will fit in a given case? We answer!

What is a cuff and what are its advantages?

Toilet collar HL DN90 eccentric for PP/PVC pipes with socket DN110 or cast iron spigots DN110 HL200/90 A sleeve is a sealing cover containing gaskets. It belongs to the group of accessories dedicated to plastic wells. It is used in sewage and drainage networks. It is used for a tight connection of the riser pipe and the telescopic pipe. It is mounted between them. The obtained connection is characterized not only by perfect tightness, but also by flexibility. The sleeves compensate for stresses resulting from the action of atmospheric factors, natural processes occurring in the ground and specific environmental conditions. Thanks to this, pipelines can be effectively and long-term protected against leaks. These elements should be durable, resistant to mechanical damage and easy to install.

However, sewage is not the only area of application of sleeves. Due to the ability to compensate for thermal expansions, the sleeve is also commonly used in water, gas, heating and industrial networks. In the case of, for example, culverts under the road, it allows for sealing the space between pipes: a carrier pipe and a casing or drilling pipe. Thanks to the sleeve, water, sand or various impurities do not penetrate between the pipes. The material of the carrier/casing pipes is not important.

Selecting the right sealing sleeve for a corrugated pipe

PP Kaczmarek cuff dn 425x315mm with seals 425 and 315, orange (Diamir 425NW) 2569250090 When choosing a telescopic transition sleeve, the diameters of the corrugated riser pipe and the smooth telescopic pipe are particularly important. In addition, you should pay attention to the material of manufacture, which determines the properties of the element. A rubber sleeve will fit, among others, a corrugated pipe. Of course, not all rubber is the same. EPDM rubber, based on a special type of rubber, works well in the construction of manholes.

The EPDM sleeve is characterized by increased durability and resistance to weather conditions, extreme temperatures, UV radiation and aggressive liquids. It is flexible and elastic, but does not deform. In sewage installations, extremely durable and resistant sleeves made of PP (polypropylene) are also used to seal the space between the carrier pipe and the casing pipe.
