Their main function is to enable switching the power supply from the traditional low-voltage power grid to alternative sources of electricity, which may be e.g. power generators. Using these switches, in the event of an external network failure, it is possible to provide redundant power supply, which makes them extremely important devices from the point of view of ensuring continuity of power supply, e.g. in public buildings, restaurants, hotels, etc. The use of this type of switches is also of key importance in single-family homes, where it is important to provide a reliable power source for electronics and household appliances.

SSQ three-position modular power source switches provide a safe solution for quickly switching the building's power supply from the mains to generator power. This is particularly important in emergency situations that may occur at any time, especially during unexpected atmospheric phenomena, such as lightning storms, tornadoes, which are increasingly observed in Poland, and other random events that may cause damage to the low-voltage power grid.

How to properly install ETI three-position transfer switches?

The three-position SSQ power switches manufactured by ETI Polam are installed in the LV electrical switchgear on the TH-35 rail, where they occupy a width of 1 to 8 modules, depending on their type and purpose.

There are two design families of switches manufactured by ETI Polam:

  • from 25 A to 40 A in 1P, 2P, 3P and 4P versions, where the width of one pole is 18 mm (1 module)
  • from 63 A to 125 A in 1P, 2P, 3P and 4P versions, where the width of one pole is 36 mm (2 modules)

The method of connecting power and receiving cables in SSQ switches depends on the selected type and is always appropriately described in the diagram located on the switch along with the recommended cable cross-sections. It is important that the design of such a switch is always three-position. The diagram shows appropriate markings for each position of the switch contacts: I (first power source) - 0 (insulating break) - II (second power source), and switching is done using a hand lever.
