Without a doubt, the cartridge is absolutely crucial in every faucet, because its task is not only to regulate the flow, but also to mix hot and cold water, while ensuring proper tightness of the fitting. It is no coincidence that it is commonly found in kitchen, bathtub and washbasin faucets. And the ceramic cartridge described in this article is characterized by even better properties than the ordinary sealing one.
In order to choose the right head, it is worth assessing the most important parameters, which include the diameter, type of faucet and manufacturer. The first of these aspects is crucial, because the ceramic head for the faucet must fit it perfectly. When deciding on a specific option, we should know its strengths and weaknesses. ½ and 3/8 ceramic heads are small, but very precise. They are especially suitable for mounting retro faucets, characterized by an attractive design. Nevertheless, the most frequently chosen ceramic head for a 40 mm faucet is the one. It allows for very precise regulation of the width of the water stream, which is of great importance. It works better than the smaller type of head - 35 mm.
Another parameter is the type of faucet, among which we can distinguish ceramic thermostatic heads for single-lever faucets and for double-lever faucets. The manufacturer is no less important, because it is worth knowing that ceramic heads have unified dimensions, so you don't have to buy everything from one manufacturer. Can a ceramic head be repaired?
Ceramic heads are very solid, but like any other item, they are also susceptible to failure. It is not worth repairing it, it is better to buy a new one. We can replace it ourselves, which we will explain step by step.
- The first thing to do is to turn off the water supply at the corner valves. We may also need to turn off the water supply at the main valve.
- Let's carefully pry and remove the cap. A flat-ended tool will definitely come in handy here. Let's gently slide it under the battery holder.

Once we manage to remove the cap, we will gain access to the screw underneath. We loosen it with an Allen key. - Next, remove the battery holder to unscrew the regulator cover.
- Underneath, you'll notice a nut that holds the head in place. It's best to unscrew it with a socket or adjustable wrench.
- Once you have managed to remove the nut, you can remove the old head. Remove it and then clean the inside of the body. This can be done with a kitchen cleaner, especially in the place where the head gaskets adhere to the supply holes.
- Now it's time to install the new head. Remember to place it correctly. Pay special attention to the stabilizing inlets - they must be placed in their dedicated holes in the body.
- Once we have installed the new head, we can assemble the faucet by performing the most important steps one by one, such as putting on the removed nut, mounting the cover and handle, tightening the screw and mounting the cap in the hole.
- You can now turn on the water supply at the corner valves or the main valve.
What is the difference between a ceramic head and a regular one?
The ceramic head is a key element of faucets in which ceramic rings are permanently installed. This is what distinguishes them most importantly from classic heads without this mechanism. Thanks to ceramics, the heads have a smooth surface, which means that scale does not appear on them. There is therefore no risk of leaks, the water flow is not disturbed in any way. As if that were not enough, such a head is very easy to clean, because it is easy to maintain. Such a head also does not cost much more than models with gaskets, which is why it is a product that is becoming increasingly popular.
