Dual-source water heating for solar and boiler installations

The MEGA SOLAR W-E 400.82N dual-source standing tank is a domestic hot water (DHW) tank designed to work with two independent heat sources simultaneously. Two spiral heat exchangers allow for the connection of a solar installation with a heating boiler - whether gas, oil, solid fuel, or a fireplace with a water jacket, or a heat pump.

The upper heat exchanger with a surface area of 0.92 m² achieves a power of up to 17.5 kW (at parameters 70/10/45°C), which translates to an efficiency of approximately 415 liters per hour. The lower heat exchanger is larger - 1.6 m² - and delivers 26 kW of power with an efficiency of 640 l/h. This configuration allows for the efficient use of energy from solar collectors as a priority source, while the boiler or heat pump supplements the heating during periods of limited sunlight.

The storage capacity is 365 liters, which, combined with thermal insulation, ensures a comfortable hot water supply for a single-family house, a guesthouse, or a small public utility building.

Construction and anti-corrosion protection

The tank is made of enameled steel - the ceramic coating effectively isolates the metal from contact with the domestic water. Additional protection is provided by an insulated magnesium anode, which actively protects against internal corrosion. The manufacturer also provides the possibility of installing a titanium anode as an alternative for demanding installations.

The maximum working pressure of the tank is 10 bar, while the heat exchangers withstand 16 bar - sufficient for typical heating installations. The tank operates at temperatures up to 85°C, and the heating media in the heat exchangers can reach 110°C.

The housing is made of plastic, and the thermal insulation is fully removable. This is a significant feature when transporting the device through narrow corridors or floors - the insulation can be removed before carrying it in and reinstalled on site.

Installation and additional equipment

The device is installed in a standing position - the total height is approximately 1715 mm, and the diameter including insulation is approximately 770 mm. The hydraulic connections include:

The manufacturer has also provided a connection for an electric heater (1½″ connection) - an optional heater allows for water heating, e.g., in summer, when the solar installation is not operating intensely enough.

Service access is provided by a Ø120 mm inspection opening, through which inspections and cleaning of the tank interior can be performed, and the condition of the magnesium anode can be monitored.

The manufacturer provides technical documentation including installation and operating instructions, as well as a product data sheet in accordance with EU energy labeling regulations - the tank achieved energy class C with standing losses at a level of approximately 96 W.

The warranty for the enameled tank is 60 months, subject to regular replacement of the magnesium anode (at least once every 18 months).
