Water meter remote reading module – reliable M-BUS data transmission

This wired M-BUS module, type IWM-MB4, is designed to work with Woltmann water meters of the WDE-K50 series. It enables remote reading of water consumption data using the standard Wired M-BUS protocol, commonly used in automated meter reading systems. This solution is ideal for both metering system installers and end-users who want access to detailed water consumption information.

Functionality and safety

IWM-MB4 not only transmits consumption data but also offers advanced fraud detection functions. The module can detect unauthorized interference, such as magnetic manipulation attempts (thanks to the inductive shield), prolonged use of maximum flow (Q4), and water leaks in the installation. All alarms are logged and reported in the M-BUS telegram sent by the module, allowing for a quick response in case of problems. The use of an inductive shield eliminates the influence of pipeline vibrations on measurement accuracy.

Installation and configuration

The IWM-MB4 module is characterized by easy installation and configuration. It has a 1.5-meter long cable, providing flexibility during installation. Device configuration is done using the NFC IWM Config APP mobile application (available on Android) or via a computer with B M-BUS software (or other compatible M-BUS program). The module housing has an IP68 protection class, which guarantees its tightness and allows installation even in harsh environmental conditions – the module can be submerged in water to a depth of 1 meter for 24 hours. The module is powered by a non-rechargeable lithium battery, automatically charged from the BUS network, with a backup measurement function in case of BUS voltage failure.
