Measurement Precision in Difficult Conditions and on Small Conductors
The BM076 clamp meter is designed for professional electrical installations, where not only a wide range of measurements but also their accuracy in specific situations is crucial. One of its most distinctive features is the AmpTip™ function. Thanks to a special notch in the upper part of the jaws, the device enables precise measurement of AC current up to 60 A even on conductors with very small diameters, which is often impossible with standard clamps. For wider circuits, the jaws accommodate conductors up to 30 mm in diameter, measuring AC current up to 600 A with True RMS values.
The device is not limited to current measurement. It offers comprehensive installation diagnostics, including AC/DC voltage up to 600 V (also True RMS), resistance up to 60 kΩ, capacitance up to 200 µF, and temperature ranging from -40°C to 400°C. An important feature for electricians is the built-in three-phase rotation test, which allows quick verification of phase sequence without additional instruments. Work safety is ensured by a high level of overvoltage and overload protection, in accordance with CAT III 600V and CAT IV 300V standards.
Functional Operating Modes and User Safety
In an installer's daily work, speed and result certainty are paramount. This meter is equipped with a series of functions that facilitate diagnosis:
- Peak-rms recording mode – captures short voltage spikes lasting 80 ms, which is crucial for interference analysis.
- MAX/MIN/AVG function – automatically records maximum, minimum, and average values during the measurement period.
- Continuity and diode test – basic circuit-checking functions, available without manual range switching thanks to auto-ranging.
- Non-contact voltage detection (EF) – quick verification of AC voltage presence before contacting conductors.
The LCD display is backlit, facilitating work in poorly lit distribution boards or attics. Additional features such as Hold (freeze result) or relative mode Δ (Delta) allow convenient comparison of readings without the need to note results on paper. The device also handles AC frequency measurement (up to 1 kHz) and DC current measurement (up to 2000 µA) via direct connection.
Practical Applications and Measurement Ranges
Thanks to its universal construction, the meter is suitable both for servicing motor control systems (thanks to the phase rotation test and inrush current measurement) and for installation work in residential or industrial buildings. The high accuracy of True RMS measurement ensures that the device correctly reads values even with distorted voltage or current waveforms, which is typical for modern electronic loads.
The practical application of the device is based on specific technical capabilities:
- Clamp-measured AC current reaches a range up to 600 A (True RMS), and thanks to the AmpTip™ function, precision increases when measuring smaller conductors up to 60 A.
- Voltage is measured in a range up to 600 V for both current types (AC/DC), maintaining True RMS values for AC.
- Resistance measurement covers a range up to 60 kΩ, and capacitor capacitance reaches up to 200 µF.
- The built-in temperature sensor allows measurements from -40°C to +400°C, which is useful, for example, when monitoring the heating of control elements.
- AC network frequency can be checked in a range up to 1 kHz, and wire-measured DC current reaches 2 mA (2000 µA).
The device is equipped with a diode test and circuit continuity function, and it features overload protection corresponding to its measurement class. This ensures stable operation even during sudden parameter spikes in the tested installation. The backlit display and ergonomic design make the device intuitive to operate for both experienced technicians and those performing occasional measurements.
