Electrochemical breathalyzer vs. semiconductor breathalyzer

• breathalyzers with an electrochemical sensor (electrochemical breathalyzers).
Semiconductor breathalyzers are most often chosen for private use. They usually require the use of a mouthpiece included in the set. Their advantage is low price. Unfortunately, they have significant disadvantages, such as increased sensitivity to menthol, cigarette smoke, citric acid and other substances. In addition, there is a significant risk of damaging the semiconductor sensor when the measurement is taken immediately after drinking alcohol. A breathalyzer equipped with an electrochemical sensor is intended for professional use, e.g. by the police and employers. The device allows for determining the concentration of alcohol in exhaled air with an accuracy of 0.000‰ and allows for passive measurement in unconscious people and those refusing to undergo the test.
Both electrochemical and semiconductor breathalyzers have more and less advanced models, so before buying, carefully check the equipment's parameters. For the measurement to be accurate, it is necessary to order periodic calibrations. It is worth making sure whether calibration can be performed by any point or only by the manufacturer's service.
