Clamp meter BM088 1000A AC/DC TRMS, AmpTip 102195

Measurement Precision in Difficult Conditions and on Small Conductors

This clamp meter combines the ability to measure current up to 1000A and voltage up to 1000V, while offering advanced True RMS functionality for both quantities. As a result, the device not only measures RMS values but also accounts for the DC component in AC/DC circuits, which is crucial when diagnosing modern installations with inverters or emergency power systems. The built-in low-pass filter (LPF) ensures reliable AC voltage readings even in the presence of high-frequency interference, such as that generated by variable-frequency drives.

A specialist advantage of this model is the unique AmpTip™ function. Instead of relying solely on standard clamps, which may be insufficient for thin conductors, the device features a special notch in the upper part of the jaws. This enables precise current measurements up to 60A on small-diameter wires, a task often impossible or highly error-prone with traditional clamp methods. For broader applications, the standard clamp method supports ranges up to 1000A.

Advanced Diagnostics and Operational Safety

The device is designed for demanding industrial and installation environments. High overvoltage protection and input overload resistance ensure equipment durability even during unforeseen grid events. The safety ratings CAT III 1000V and CAT IV 600V mean it can be safely used in main distribution boards and at low-voltage service connections.

To facilitate work in poorly lit areas (e.g., basement distribution rooms or behind cabinets), the manufacturer has equipped the model with a backlit LCD display and a built-in flashlight. Additional diagnostic-supporting features include:

  • CREST Mode (5ms) – recording peak current values, essential for pulse analysis.
  • PEAK-rms Mode (80ms) – detecting inrush currents and peak RMS voltages, helping identify motor startup issues.
  • MAX/MIN/AVG Function – automatically recording extreme and average values during measurement.
  • Non-Contact Voltage Detection (EF) – quick verification of AC voltage presence without touching live parts.
  • Δ (Delta) Mode – ability to compare results against a reference value.

Additionally, the meter offers basic test functions such as continuity testing, diode testing, resistance measurement up to 60 kΩ, and AC frequency measurement up to 1 kHz. The HOLD function allows freezing the reading on the screen, facilitating data recording during one-handed operation.

Practical Applications and User Benefits

It is worth noting how specific features translate into the daily work of an electrician. Thanks to the AmpTip™ function, which utilizes the special notch in the jaws, precise current measurements up to 60A are possible even on very thin conductors—a situation that often precludes the use of the standard clamp method due to the meter's jaw opening being too large. Meanwhile, the built-in low-pass filter (LPF) together with the True RMS mode ensures accurate AC voltage readings in inverter-based installations, where traditional meters often fail due to harmonic interference.

Analysis of dynamic grid changes is also no problem thanks to the PEAK-rms mode (80ms) and the CREST peak value recorder (5ms). This allows detection of short-term inrush current spikes or voltage pulses that might be missed during continuous measurement. Operator safety is a priority—the robust construction and compliance with CAT III 1000V / CAT IV 600V standards enable direct work at main power sources without risk of equipment damage or personal injury. Added to this are tools that facilitate work: a flashlight and LCD backlighting for visibility in dark technical areas, and non-contact voltage detection (EF), which quickly indicates phase presence without physical contact with the circuit.
