Functionality and Safety for Electricians
The BM2257 multimeter is designed for fast and precise diagnosis of electrical installations, both in industrial environments and during maintenance work. Its key advantage is the use of True RMS technology, which ensures reliable readings of AC voltage and current even in circuits with distorted waveforms, typical of modern controllers or inverters. Thanks to the VFD-ACV function with a low-pass filter (LPF), the device effectively filters out high-frequency interference, enabling stable readings in inverter-based installations where traditional meters would often fail or display incorrect values.
User safety is a top priority, confirmed by high surge protection (up to 6 kV) and CAT III 600V and CAT IV 300V certifications. Importantly for practitioners, the meter is equipped with the Beep-Jack™ system – an intelligent warning signal that alerts against incorrect probe connection to input jacks. This simple solution significantly reduces the risk of device damage or electric arc occurrence during voltage measurements. The ergonomic casing allows comfortable one-handed operation, which is invaluable when working on ladders or in hard-to-reach areas of switchboards.
Intelligent Measurement Functions and Fault Detection
In an electrician's daily work, quickly eliminating erroneous readings caused by phantom voltages is crucial. The LoZ (Low Impedance) function automatically lowers input impedance, allowing effective "discharge" of such ghost voltages and obtaining a true picture of the installation's condition. Meanwhile, the AutoV mode eliminates the need for manual switching between DC and AC current measurements – the meter automatically recognizes the signal at the inputs and selects the appropriate range, speeding up the diagnostic process.
To facilitate work in poor lighting conditions, a large LCD display with warm-tone backlighting and a dynamic analog bargraf refreshed 40 times per second have been implemented. This allows observation of rapid value changes without focusing on digits. Additional features such as RealRead™ (displaying only stable results), AutoHold (freezing the last stable reading after probe removal), and non-contact voltage detection (EF/NCV) with adjustable sensitivity make this model a versatile tool for quickly locating faults and checking for voltage presence without direct contact with conductors.
Measurement Range and Additional Diagnostic Capabilities
The device supports a wide spectrum of physical quantities essential for comprehensive diagnosis of electrical systems and automation. In addition to standard voltage measurements up to 600 V and current up to 20 A, the multimeter allows precise determination of resistance up to 60 MΩ and capacitance up to 10 mF – this range is particularly useful for testing capacitors in drive or filtering circuits. The ability to measure temperature from -40°C to 1000°C (using the included Type K thermocouple) extends the device's application to monitoring motor or heating system temperatures.
For advanced data analysis, MAX/MIN/AVG recording modes are available, as well as the CREST-MAX function for capturing peak values lasting longer than 5 ms. The meter also communicates with a PC via an optional USB interface kit, facilitating archiving of measurement results immediately after service work completion. The package includes essential accessories: test leads, temperature probe, and batteries, allowing immediate device operation upon unpacking.
Key Features in Practice:
- True RMS + VFD/LPF – ensures precise measurement in inverter and motor installations without high-frequency interference.
- LoZ (Low Impedance) – effectively eliminates phantom voltages when checking old or neglected installations.
- Beep-Jack™ – protects against incorrect probe connection (e.g., attempting voltage measurement in a current socket).
- AutoV – enables quick measurement start without manual AC/DC mode selection.
- 40x/s Bargraf – allows rapid visual reaction to real-time parameter changes thanks to the dynamic progress bar.
