Network Quality Analysis and Power Measurement in a Single Device
This advanced clamp meter is a tool that goes beyond standard voltage or current checks. Thanks to the ability to measure active, reactive, and apparent power in the range up to 600 kW/kVA/kVar, the device enables a comprehensive assessment of electrical installation load. Importantly for installers working on network modernization, the device's algorithm accounts for harmonics up to the 51st order, resulting in precise calculation of the power factor (PF) and total harmonic distortion factor (THD%-F). This is not just a dry number – it is a real assessment of power quality, helping to diagnose problems such as transformer overheating or inefficient energy consumption in industrial facilities.
Functionality and Safety in Challenging Conditions
Working with high currents requires not only precision but, above all, safety. The meter is designed with CAT III 600V safety categories in mind, meaning high resistance to overvoltages and short-circuit voltage spikes occurring in distribution boards. The clamp jaws with a 45 mm opening width allow for trouble-free clamping around even thick power cables. The device automatically detects the signal type (AC/DC) and switches ranges, speeding up work on-site – there is no need to manually search for the appropriate function. To facilitate diagnostics, a circuit characteristic signaling function (A-lags-V) is built in, visually indicating whether the load is inductive or capacitive. This is crucial information when selecting reactive power compensation.
Additionally, the meter features energy recording (kWh) and a peak value capture mode for inrush current. This makes it easy to identify devices with high starting currents that may cause false tripping of protective devices. The LCD display is backlit and divided into sections: for current, it shows up to 4000 digits; for voltage, up to 6000; and for other parameters, even up to 9999 digits, ensuring readability of results even at very low or high values.
Measurement Ranges and Data Communication
It is worth noting the wide measurement capabilities of the device, which cover most applications in industry and commercial construction. AC current can be measured in a range up to 1000 A, and AC/DC voltage reaches 600 V with an accuracy of ±(0.5% + 5 digits). For network quality analysis purposes, the device supports frequencies from 45 Hz to 3100 Hz in True RMS mode, allowing precise analysis even of non-standard networks. An additional advantage is the ability to test circuit continuity and measure resistance up to 1 kΩ.
Data collected during measurements can be easily archived thanks to the optical USB interface – simply connect the optional KIT BRUA-13x set to a PC and transfer the results without the need to manually transcribe numbers from the display. The built-in HOLD function allows freezing the result on the screen at any point during operation, while the automatic power-off system ensures battery savings during long measurement sessions. The entire unit is housed in a compact enclosure with dimensions of 224 x 78 x 40 mm and a weight of approximately 224 g, facilitating transport between control points.
