Freestanding distribution board enclosure for indoor installation

The presented enclosure is an empty, freestanding distribution board from the xEnergy Basic series, designed for indoor installation. Its primary function is to create a safe and organized space for low-voltage electrical equipment. Thanks to its steel construction and IP30 protection rating, the device effectively protects the contents against accidental contact with live parts and against the ingress of solid objects with a diameter greater than 2.5 mm (e.g., tools, thick wire). The lack of pre-installed modules makes it an ideal base for installers building systems from scratch – from simple domestic distribution boards to more complex industrial cabinets.

A key structural element is the adjustable-depth mounting plate, which significantly facilitates cable laying and device installation. The installer does not need to fit components into a rigidly defined space; they can adapt the interior layout to the specifics of the project. The enclosure features full doors with a three-point rotary lock, ensuring secure closure and access safety. The entire unit is made of galvanized steel, with the surface powder-coated in light gray (RAL 7035), guaranteeing corrosion resistance and an aesthetic appearance in any technical room.

Application and key structural features

The device is designed for freestanding floor mounting, eliminating the need for wall fixation and allowing free access to the rear of the enclosure (if required by the installation). External dimensions are 400 mm width, 1760 mm height, and 300 mm depth, making it a compact solution where space is limited but high functionality is required.

The following features affecting durability and safety are worth noting:

• Mechanical strength: IK08 protection rating means the enclosure withstands strong mechanical impacts, which is important in high-traffic areas or industrial environments.
• Electromagnetic compatibility: Construction compliant with the EMC directive ensures that the enclosure does not interfere with the operation of electronic devices nor is it susceptible to external interference.
• Ready for installation: The kit includes a galvanized rear wall with profiled angle brackets and entry flanges (top/bottom), accelerating the installation process for supply cables.
• No embossments: Smooth side walls (welded) facilitate any subsequent modifications or addition of openings according to project requirements.

The material is galvanized steel powder-coated in RAL 7035, ensuring corrosion resistance. The enclosure has one full door with a three-point rotary lock and does not require additional wall or recessed mounting – it is placed directly on the floor. The mounting plate allows depth adjustment, increasing flexibility during cable routing.

Operating conditions and compliance with standards

The enclosure meets the rigorous requirements of standards for low-voltage distribution boards. Electrical strength is 440 V AC at mains frequency, and impulse voltage withstand reaches 4 kV. This is standard for devices intended for indoor installations where environmental conditions are stable – resistance to UV radiation or extreme external temperatures does not apply here.

Data on heat dissipation is crucial for cooling system designers or when selecting devices generating significant heat. With a temperature difference ΔT = 20 K and an ambient temperature of 35°C, the freestanding enclosure can dissipate approximately 75 W of power (for a central configuration). It should be noted that the final cooling capacity depends on the arrangement of internal components – the prefabricator must independently calculate the temperature rise in accordance with IEC/TR 60890. The enclosure has no ventilation in the doors or glazing, maintaining its IP30 seal and protecting the interior from dust and moisture suspended in the room air. Thanks to this, the solution is suitable for both offices and production halls with a moderate level of conductive dust contamination.
