Safe handwheels – VDN.FP+I+ST series

The VDN.200 FP+I+ST handwheel is part of the Elesa+Ganter series of safe handwheels, designed for applications requiring both precise manual adjustment and the ability to cooperate with a mechanical drive. Made of durable duroplast, meeting the guidelines of the REACH regulation, which guarantees the absence of harmful chemical compounds in the composition. The wheel's construction is reinforced at the handle mounting point, and the specially profiled rim with protrusions on the underside provides a secure grip and comfortable operation.

Design and application

A key feature of this wheel is the built-in clutch set, which makes it a so-called safe wheel. In the rest position, the wheel rotates freely on the shaft, without transmitting torque. Activating the clutch – by pulling the wheel – causes the multiple wedges to engage and effectively transfer torque to the shaft. After the operation is completed, the wheel automatically returns to the rest position, minimizing the risk of uncontrolled movement. A version with a clutch engaged by pushing is also available.

These wheels are widely used in machines and equipment where a mixed drive – mechanical and manual – is required. They are perfect, for example, in the lead screws of machine tools, allowing for quick coarse positioning with a motor, and then precise manual adjustment. They are also ideal where the driven masses are characterized by high inertia, and the continuation of movement after the mechanical drive is switched off could pose a hazard to the operator.
