Protection of main switchboards against atmospheric surges
A four-pole surge arrester designed for installation in the main switchboards of buildings - both commercial and industrial, as well as public utility buildings. This Type 1+2 device reacts to surges caused by direct and indirect lightning strikes as well as switching voltage surges in the network. Thanks to an impulse current of 25 kA (10/350 µs), it is suitable for installations with an external lightning protection system of classes LPL I-IV.
The design based on a combination of a varistor and a gas discharge arrester ensures a fast response time of 100 ns and a low voltage protection level of 1.5 kV at the rated discharge current. The device operates in TN-S and TN-C-S network systems, with a rated voltage of 230 V AC and a maximum continuous operating voltage of 260 V AC. The short-circuit strength reaches 50 kA, allowing it to withstand emergency conditions without damage.
Construction, dimensions, and connection flexibility
The housing occupies 8 modules on a TH-35 mm rail (width 144 mm), which corresponds to standard modular switchboards. Single-core or multi-core conductors with a cross-section from 2.5 to 50 mm², or flexible cables with a cross-section up to 30 mm², can be connected to the power terminals. Two connection variants are available - fork or pin lug/terminal connection - which facilitates adaptation to on-site conditions.
The maximum overcurrent protection for a parallel connection is 250 A gL/gG, and for a series connection - 125 A. The operating temperature range of from -40°C to +85°C and the permissible ambient humidity of 5-95% allow for use both indoors and in more demanding environmental conditions.
Replaceable modules and status signaling
Each pole is equipped with a replaceable functional module - in case of wear, it is only necessary to replace the specific module without the need to replace the entire device. The modules feature a built-in optical indicator: green color indicates the device is functional, while red signals the need to replace a worn module. This solution enables quick visual diagnostics without additional measuring tools.
The device does not have an integrated backup fuse or a remote signaling contact - the installer selects these elements separately according to the needs of the specific switchboard. The absence of leakage current and residual current eliminates additional load on the installation in a standby state.
Compliance with standards and application conditions
The arrester meets the requirements of the PN-EN 61643-11 and IEC 61643-11 standards, confirming its compliance with European safety standards for low-voltage surge protection devices. The enclosure protection rating is IP20, therefore the device is intended for indoor installation - typically inside electrical switchboards.
The recommended installation point is the boundary between LPZ 0 and LPZ 1 or higher, i.e., directly at the power supply entry to the main switchboard of a building equipped with an LPS.
