Effective cleaning of the central heating installation with a Dryl sludge separator
The Dryl magnetic sludge separator is a reliable solution to protect the central heating installation from the effects of mechanical, ferromagnetic contaminants and air. The device effectively captures deposits that can lead to failures and reduced efficiency of the pump, valves and other heating system components. Installing this type of filter is an investment in the long-term and trouble-free operation of the entire installation.
How does the Dryl sludge separator work?
The Dryl design is based on a multi-stage filtration process. The working fluid stream, introduced through the inlet, slows down and becomes turbulent thanks to a specially designed outlet elbow. Contaminants settle by gravity to the bottom of the device and are then filtered through a dense mesh made of chrome-nickel alloy with a mesh size of 0.4 mm. Additionally, air bubbles are separated on the filter mesh and removed by an automatic air vent. A key element is also a strong stack of ferrite magnets, which capture ferromagnetic particles constituting a significant part of the deposits in central heating installations – even more than 50%. This reduces the spread of iron particles throughout the installation, which can be corrosion hotspots.
Application and benefits
The Dryl sludge separator can be used in both new and existing central heating installations. It is installed in-line on the main return line of the central heating installation, preferably equipped with ball valves on both sides to facilitate periodic emptying of sediments without having to drain the entire installation. Using this filter translates to:
- Extended device life: Protection of the pump, valves and other control automation components from damage caused by contaminants.
- Increased energy efficiency: A clean installation operates more efficiently, resulting in lower heating costs.
- Corrosion limitation: Removing ferromagnetic particles reduces the risk of corrosion hotspots inside the installation.
- Effective venting: Removing air from the system improves heat circulation and prevents noise.
- Simple operation: Regular filter cleaning is easy and does not require specialized tools – simply open the lower drain valve or unscrew the reduction in the lower part of the device and clean the mesh with the magnetic stack.
The Dryl 1'' sludge separator with a power of up to 37kW is a solid solution made of structural steel coated with a layer of zinc (inside) and chrome-nickel alloy (filter mesh). It is a product of Elterm, a reputable manufacturer of fittings and heating equipment. Regular maintenance will ensure years of trouble-free operation not only of the filter itself, but also of the entire central heating installation.
