Medium voltage fuse links – reliable installation protection
VV fuse links are a proven protection element in medium voltage networks. Designed to protect electrical equipment such as lines, cables, transformers, motors and capacitor banks, against the effects of short circuits and overloads. The construction of the fuse links provides both thermal and dynamic protection against fault currents. The VVT-D3 versions additionally feature a thermal trigger that reacts to the temperature rise of the fuse link body, increasing safety and reliability.
Characteristics and application
VV fuse links are characterized by a high short-circuit breaking capacity – up to 63 kA. These are key components in ensuring continuity of supply and minimizing the risk of failure in medium voltage installations. It finds application both in new installations and in the modernization of existing ones. The striker with a force of 50N (in VVC3 versions) or 80N (in VVT-D3 versions) effectively indicates the operation of the fuse link and activates the tripping mechanism of power fuses.
Advantages and benefits
- High reliability: Technical reports from tests conducted by KEMA Labs confirm the high quality and reliability of VV fuse links.
- Protection against overloads and short circuits: They provide effective protection of installations against the effects of thermal overloads and dynamic short-circuit currents.
- Versions with thermal trigger: VVT-D3 fuse links with a thermal trigger react to temperature rise, which is particularly important in SF6 switchgear. The trigger does not react to short-term current surges, but only to a dangerous increase in the housing temperature.
- Solid construction: A high-strength ceramic tube and galvanically protected contacts guarantee long-lasting and trouble-free operation.
- Easy replacement: An improved contact cap facilitates and speeds up the replacement of fuse links during maintenance or repair.
- Resistance to environmental conditions: A reliable sealing system protects against moisture, increasing the durability of the fuse link.
- Silver element: Ensures optimal electrical conductivity and efficient operation.
It is important to select the appropriate fuse link for a specific application, taking into account the network parameters and the requirements for the protection of equipment. The minimum breaking current I₃ is 3A, which means that the fuse link will only operate when this value of short-circuit current is exceeded – important when working with loads with low power consumption. Cold resistance Rc is 76 mΩ and power loss Pn is 39.5W for this model. The pre-arcing integral I₂t min is 450 A²s and the maximum I₂t max is 7000 A²s.
