Reactive power compensation with LPC capacitors

LPC capacitors are a reliable and proven solution for reactive power compensation in electrical installations. They are designed to work with inductive loads such as transformers, electric motors, rectifiers, and fluorescent lighting – both individually and in automatic capacitor bank systems. Using LPC capacitors allows for improving the power factor, reducing energy losses, and reducing the load on the power supply network.

LPC capacitors with an internal connection in a ∆ configuration are made of low-loss, self-healing polypropylene film. The dry-type construction, filled with environmentally friendly polypropylene resin, ensures excellent heat dissipation and long-term reliability. The aluminum housing contains overpressure disconnectors, protecting against damage in the event of a failure. A capacitor with a power of 15 kVAr has screw terminals, ensuring a solid and safe connection.

Construction and application

LPC capacitors are widely used in industry, construction, and commercial installations. Their versatility allows them to be used both in new installations and in the modernization of existing ones. Thanks to their compact size (diameter 100 mm, length 225 mm), the capacitors can be easily mounted in limited spaces. The possibility of both vertical and horizontal mounting (horizontal mounting requires additional support) increases installation flexibility.

It is worth noting a number of safeguards built into LPC capacitors: discharge resistors guarantee a reduction in voltage at the terminals to a safe level (75V within 3 minutes after disconnection from the power supply), and an internal overpressure disconnector protects the capacitor bank from serious damage in the event of overvoltage or overheating. In addition, thanks to the use of high-quality polypropylene film, the capacitors are characterized by a self-healing ability – minor damage to the insulation is automatically repaired, which extends the life of the device.
