RS-485 Expansion Module – Expanding the Capabilities of FLogic Controllers

This expansion module, designated FLC18E-RS485, is a key element in automation systems, enabling the addition of an RS-485 communication interface to the FLogic series controllers. This allows the controller to be integrated with other devices and systems utilizing this popular communication standard. This is particularly useful in applications requiring remote monitoring and control, as well as in the construction of distributed automation systems.

Functionality and application

The FLC18E-RS485 module expands the capabilities of FLogic controllers with an RS-485 communication port. This makes it possible to connect devices equipped with this interface to the controller, such as:

• HMI (Human Machine Interface) – operator panels

• Other PLC controllers

• SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems

Moreover, the module has galvanic isolation, which increases the system's resistance to interference and ensures safe operation. Communication parameter configuration is possible, allowing the module to be adapted to specific application requirements. The ability to operate in master/slave mode provides flexibility in configuring the communication network.

Mounting and technical parameters

The FLC18E-RS485 module is mounted on a standard 35 mm rail, making it easy to integrate with existing installations. The power supply is 12÷24 V DC, and the power consumption is 1.8 W. The connection is made using 1.5 mm² screw terminals, which require a tightening torque of 0.4 Nm. The module operates at a temperature of -20°C to 55°C and has an IP20 protection class. Its depth is 65 mm and its weight is 300g.

It is worth remembering that the module works with FLC18-12DI-6R series CPU modules. Additionally, the free FLCLogic Soft software is used to program FLogic controllers, which allows testing the program both in simulation and real mode.
