Microwave motion sensor with occupancy sensor function, ceiling mount, black DRM-02B
Modern Lighting Automation with Microwave Motion Sensor
The DRM-02B microwave motion sensor is an advanced solution for automatic lighting control in residential and commercial buildings. The device utilizes 5.8 GHz radar technology for precise motion detection within the detection area.
Operating Principle and Detection Technology
The sensor emits and receives high-frequency electromagnetic waves at 5.8 GHz, operating on radar principles. It detects changes in wave reflection caused by the movement of objects within the monitored zone. Maximum effectiveness is achieved with movement directly towards the device, while simultaneously recognizing movement "towards" and "away from" the sensor.
Microwave technology enables detection through obstacles such as wooden boards, drywall, glass, and plastics. This significantly expands installation possibilities, allowing the device to be concealed in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
Operating Parameters and Adjustments
The device operates within a wide supply voltage range of 195÷265 V AC, with a maximum load current of 5 A. The brightness threshold sensitivity can be adjusted from 2 to 2000 lux, allowing adaptation to various lighting conditions—from deep twilight to dim light.
The detection range is adjustable from 1 to 10 meters (for a mounting height of 2.5 m), and the horizontal detection field covers a full 360°, eliminating blind spots. The receiver activation time can be individually set within a range of 5 seconds to 12 minutes.
Safety and Standards
The microwave radiation power is below 10 mW, which is completely safe for humans and animals. For comparison, a microwave oven or mobile phone radiates with a power of approximately 1000 mW, i.e., one hundred times higher.
The sensor maintains constant accuracy regardless of ambient temperature. It operates stably within a temperature range of -25°C to +50°C, enabling installation in various environmental conditions.
Construction and Installation
The device is made of thermoplastic material in black color (RAL 9005) with a matte surface finish. The compact construction has a diameter of 103 mm and a height of 44 mm, facilitating discreet ceiling mounting.
The mounting method is surface-mounted, with the possibility of installation on ceilings or walls. The optimal mounting height is 6 meters, ensuring the best coverage of the detection area. The protection rating is IP40, protecting against dust and small contaminants.
Smart Control Functionality
The sensor is equipped with an automatic dusk-to-dawn switch, which prevents the controlled lighting from turning on during the day. Detection is activated only after dusk, when additional lighting is actually needed.
When motion is detected after dark, the lighting turns on automatically and remains active for the entire duration of the movement. Once activity ceases, the user-set hold time is triggered. If motion reappears during this period, the cycle restarts from the beginning.
Thanks to its high sensitivity, it can also function as a presence sensor.
Electrical Installation
Electrical connection is made via screw terminals with a wire cross-section of 1.0 mm² and a tightening torque of 0.25 Nm. The device's power consumption is only 0.9 W, making it an energy-efficient solution.
The maximum switching power is 1250 W for AC-1 resistive loads, while for LED loads the maximum power is 75 W. The switching delay is less than one second (<1s), ensuring an immediate response to the appearance of a person or object.**
