Motion and presence sensors - Onninen wholesale store
Motion sensors are devices used both to automate the switching on of lights and to protect homes and other buildings against theft and the presence of unauthorized persons. In our store you will find various types of motion sensors, using different mechanisms of action. How do they differ from each other and what features distinguish them?
PIR (Passive Infra Red) sensors are the most popular motion sensors. They are used in both lighting installations and burglar alarms. They are also called passive sensors and operate thanks to an infrared radiation recorder. Thermal radiation is invisible to the human eye, but the motion sensor analyzes and processes it, and when an object with higher radiation emission appears in the background, it closes the circuit, thus causing the desired effect, e.g. switching on a light source . Any temperature changes caused by human or animal movement are detected and treated as a signal to turn on the lighting.
Another type of motion sensor is microwave (MW) sensors. Their operating principle is based on the generation of high-frequency radio waves that bounce off the environment and return to the recorder, which then compares the transmitted wave and the received wave. Devices of this type use the so-called Doppler effect and sense the difference between the frequency of the original wave and the one reflected from the moving object. Microwave sensors sense changes through thin walls, cardboard and similar obstacles, which infrared sensors cannot. MW sensors emit very low-power waves, making them completely safe for human and animal health.
Some motion sensors have a built-in twilight sensor. Similar mechanisms are used in automotive applications, among others. The sensor installed in the sensor measures the intensity of sunlight in the immediate vicinity and, based on the result, determines whether this intensity exceeds the minimum threshold value set by the user. Such sensors, combined with a motion sensor, are primarily useful in staircase or driveway lighting systems, and the ability to adjust the light intensity means that it is not too intense and does not strain the eyes.
