Three-phase motor control – safety and efficiency
The PCG-417DUO time controller is a device designed to control a star-delta switching contactor system, commonly used in the starting of three-phase motors. Its main task is to ensure a smooth and safe transition from the star connection (with lower starting current) to the delta connection (nominal operation), minimizing the load on the electrical network and protecting the motor from damage. This solution is particularly important in the case of high-power motors, where starting currents can be many times higher than the nominal values.
How does the PCG-417DUO work?
A key feature of this controller is the use of two independent electromagnetic relays. This eliminates the risk of simultaneously switching on the star and delta contactors, which could lead to a short circuit and damage to the installation. The switching process takes place as follows: after power is applied, the relay controls the star contactor for a set start-up time (t1). After this time, a forced pause (t2) occurs, and then the delta contactor is switched on. The delay time can be adjusted to suit the specific motor and application. This ensures optimal starting conditions, minimizing inrush current and extending motor life.
Mounting and technical parameters
The PCG-417DUO controller is designed for mounting on a TH-35 rail, making it easy to integrate into an existing electrical installation. Compact dimensions (1 module, i.e. 18 mm wide) allow for efficient use of space in control cabinets. The device is powered by 230V AC or 24V AC/DC, and its contacts can withstand a current of up to 8A. It also has LEDs indicating the power and operation status, which facilitates diagnostics and monitoring of the system. The time setting range is from 1 to 1000 seconds, allowing for precise adjustment of the start-up parameters to specific needs. Additionally, the electrical connection is made using convenient screw terminals with a cross-section of 2.5 mm².
