Input/Output Expansion Module – Flexibility and MODBUS RTU Communication

The Max-MR-DIO-1 module is a compact device that expands the capabilities of PLCs or other automation systems with 6 universal inputs and 6 digital outputs. Communication is via the popular MODBUS RTU protocol over the RS-485 interface, ensuring easy integration with existing systems. This is an ideal solution when you need to increase the number of input/output points without replacing the entire controller.

Universal Application and Functionality

This module is a true combination – each of the 6 contacts can function as an independent digital input or output. Digital inputs are activated by shorting to ground, and outputs operate as open collectors, providing great flexibility in the selection of connected devices. Additionally, the module has a function to save the output status in non-volatile memory, so that after restarting the power supply, the outputs return to their previously set configuration. This is particularly useful in applications requiring continuous operation.

Construction and Technical Parameters

The Max-MR-DIO-1 module has been designed for easy mounting on a standard DIN rail (35 mm) and is only 18 mm wide – it occupies only one DIN module. The power supply is DC voltage in the range of 9-30V, which ensures compatibility with most standard industrial power supplies. Operation is signaled by LEDs: green indicates the presence of power, and yellow indicates correct RS-485 communication. The maximum working current of the output is 100 mA (constant) or 200 mA (pulse), and the contact voltage is up to 50V. This allows you to connect various loads, such as relays, signal lamps or solenoid valves. The data transmission rate in the MODBUS RTU network is configurable in the range of 1200 to 115200 bit/s, and the network address can be set using a code switch located under the module housing.
