Innovative diameter reduction system for large installations

The VPC XXL DN1140-1190MM flexible coupling is an advanced solution for connecting sewage pipes with large external diameters of 1140-1190mm. The system utilizes an adjustable sealing flange made of elastomeric rubber, which, in combination with a concentrically self-aligning plastic locating insert, enables precise adjustment. The design allows for a maximum reduction of ≤50mm while maintaining the full tightness of the connection.

The diameter reduction process occurs uniformly around the entire circumference, where an articulated middle section allows for separate reduction on each side of the coupling. This makes it possible to connect pipes with the same nominal diameter but made of different materials—even those with significantly different external diameters resulting from different construction types. The system prevents the rubber from sliding apart or wrinkling during the fitting process.

Advanced materials and chemical resistance

The construction is based on two stainless steel clamping bands, which allow for bilateral, separate, and smooth adjustment of the connected materials. The steel used belongs to grades that are particularly resistant to corrosion and acids—in the standard version, it is V2A (1.4301) steel, and in the special version, V4A (1.4404).

The materials are resistant to oils and gasoline and particularly resistant to aggressive substances found in sewage and soil. Additionally, the material shows resistance to the effects of saline seawater, which expands the range of applications to coastal and industrial installations. The sealing sleeve is most commonly made of EPDM according to DIN EN 681-1 WC/60 or NBR in the oil-resistant version.

Practicality of installation and operation

The system provides a bilateral protrusion for secure tape guidance and a cylindrical contact surface in the sealing area. The double sealing profile guarantees reliable protection against leaks. The locating body and the sealing sleeve maintain a neutral position relative to each other, eliminating the risk of the rubber wrinkling during installation.

Installation is simple, fast, and secure, and the design remains robust despite its compact build. The solution covers a large range of diameters without the need for additional leveling rings—bilateral stepless adjustment with reliable shear load transfer is a key advantage of the VPC XXL system.

Material and regulatory compatibility

The coupling is intended for sewage pipes made of various materials: cast iron (GGG/SML), PP-MD/PP/PE-HD, PVC-U according to DIN EN 1401/1852/12666/13476, stoneware according to DIN EN 295 (N/H), glass-reinforced concrete GRP according to DIN EN 14364, and other smooth, corrugated, or ribbed pipe types.

The system meets the requirements of the DIN EN 1610 standard regarding tightness and has DIBt Z-42.5-450 approval for nominal diameters up to DN2000. The oil-resistant version has additional Z-42.5-546 approval for diameters DN150-DN600. The design ensures a large cylindrical contact surface for the pipes and safe operation under pressure up to 2.5 bar (for smaller sizes).
