Advanced flexible coupling for sewage pipes XXL

The VPC XXL DN1220-1270MM flexible coupling is an advanced solution for connecting large-diameter sewage pipes with external diameters from 1220 to 1270mm. The product belongs to the VPC XXL series, specifically designed for nominal diameters from 1000mm to 2800mm, enabling secure and watertight connections for pipes made of various materials - cast iron, polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), PVC-U, stoneware, concrete, and glass-reinforced plastics (GRP).

Construction and fitting system

The construction is based on three main components: an adjustable sealing sleeve made of EPDM elastomeric rubber according to PN EN 681-1 WC/60 or NBR in the oil-resistant version, a self-centering positioning basket made of high-impact plastic, and two fastening bands made of V2A (1.4301) or V4A (1.4404) stainless steel. The system allows for bilateral, separate, and stepless diameter reduction of up to 50mm while maintaining a centric position.

The articulated middle part of the positioning basket allows for independent reduction on each side of the coupling, while the multi-profile seal with a width of 380mm (insertion depth of 190mm per side) ensures reliable tightness in accordance with DIN EN 1610 requirements. The cylindrical contact surface with a minimum width of 60mm on each side guarantees uniform distribution of clamping forces around the entire circumference of the pipe.

Materials and chemical resistance

The standard version utilizes a sealing sleeve made of ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber, which provides excellent resistance to weather conditions and typical substances found in municipal sewage. The special oil-resistant version utilizes acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) according to PN EN 681-1 WH and steel elements made of V4A (1.4404) steel, which belongs to grades particularly resistant to corrosion and acids.

The fastening bands made of alloy steel ensure long-term maintenance of clamping force without the risk of galvanic corrosion. The material is resistant to the influence of saline seawater and aggressive substances in the soil - particularly important for installations in northern regions of Poland where the soil may contain high concentrations of salts.

Installation and tensioning system

VPC XXL couplings are equipped with an innovative hybrid tensioner system that eliminates the need for a tangential wrench during installation. The installation process requires placing the coupling to ensure free access to the hybrid tensioners - the tensioning of the fastening rings is then performed from a single position with a torque of 25Nm controlled by a torque wrench.

The dual-sided lip of the sealing sleeve guarantees secure guidance of the fastening bands throughout the entire installation process. The positioning basket and the sealing sleeve maintain a neutral position relative to each other during the entire diameter adjustment process - this eliminates the risk of rubber folding or displacement of the sealing elements.

Normative compliance and certificates

The product holds DIBt approval no. Z-42.5-450 for the nominal range from DN100 to DN2000 and additional approval Z-42.5-546 for BI adapters in the DN150-DN600 range with circular internal pipe geometry. Tightness has been confirmed by MPA institute tests for all diameters at an internal water pressure of up to 2.5 bar.

The design meets the requirements of DIN EN 1610 standards regarding the installation of sewage pipelines and DIN 4060/DIN EN 295 regarding shear load transfer with stepless adjustment on both sides of the coupling.
