Automatic power changeover switch 4P 160A HIC416A
Automatic Power Source Transfer Switch
This device is designed for safe and automatic switching between two power sources — e.g., the public grid and an emergency generator. When voltage in one source fails, the switch automatically transfers the load to the other source, and upon restoration of voltage, it returns to the original source. No manual intervention is required — all operations are based on voltage and frequency measurements with 1% accuracy.
Construction and Installation
The device is designed for permanent installation inside distribution boards — it is not suitable for front, intermediate, or external panel mounting. It features a "festeinbau" construction, meaning it is permanently mounted within the switchgear. Main contact connections are made via screws — no special connectors or tools are required. The built-in motor drive ensures smooth and reliable switching even under high currents, while the locking mechanism prevents accidental position changes — e.g., during operation near vibrating equipment.
Safety Functions and Applications
The switch serves as a main isolator, safety disconnect, and maintenance isolator — meaning it can be used as an isolation point for servicing or emergency disconnection of the entire circuit. It does not function as an emergency stop device (no E-Stop button), but its ability to interrupt load under current makes it safe for daily use. A switching capacity of 105 kW at 400 V enables handling of motor, heater, or industrial machine loads. A short-circuit current rating of 40 kA ensures resilience against short-circuit effects in the installation — even under maximum load conditions.
Who Is This Solution For?
For the installer: no need to additionally mount contactors or controllers — everything is integrated in a single enclosure. The built-in drive and locking mechanism eliminate the need for external control. For the end user: no power interruptions during grid failure — the system operates autonomously without manual switching. All functions are visible through a window showing the I–0–II position — making it easy to verify which source is active.
Compliance and Operating Conditions
Operates within a voltage range of 380–415 V AC, with continuous current ratings of 160 A (AC-21) or 125 A (AC-23). Withstands short-duration short-circuit currents up to 7 kA for the duration specified in the standard. IP20 protection class guards against contact with live parts — but it is not intended for humid or dusty environments. It is RoHS and REACH compliant — contains no hazardous substances.
