Protection of circuits with high inrush current

The HMX232 circuit breaker is designed to protect circuits in commercial and industrial installations where motor‑driven devices are present – e.g., pumps, fans, compressors or conveyor lines. The C‑characteristic allows it to withstand short‑duration current surges during start‑up without false tripping, eliminating unnecessary interruptions and ensuring continuous operation.

A high making capacity of 50 kA at 230 V and 400 V means the breaker can safely interrupt even extreme short circuits – without risk of damage or explosion. This is critical in locations where the installation may be exposed to large fault currents, such as near transformers or on long cable runs.

Mounting and compatibility

Surface‑mounting on a 35 mm DIN rail is standard and proven – the breaker fits most industrial distribution boards. A width of 3 modules allows efficient space utilization in the enclosure. Terminals are secured with screws torqued to a precise 3.6 Nm, and their design prevents incorrect wiring.

Single‑core conductors up to 70 mm² and multi‑core conductors up to 50 mm² can be connected without additional lugs – facilitating installation of large conductors in high‑current circuits. The poles are aligned, enabling easy connection to busbars without the need for extra adapters.

Operating conditions and safety

It operates reliably over a wide temperature range: from –25 °C to +70 °C – suitable for both unheated technical rooms and hot machine spaces. The IP20 protection rating provides basic protection against accidental contact with live parts, but it is not intended for humid or dusty environments.

Energy‑limiting class 3 and surge category 3 indicate that the breaker is resistant to voltage surges typical of industrial networks – e.g., from motor shutdowns or load switching. A 6 kV withstand voltage further confirms its ability to endure momentary overloads.

Compliance with IEC 60947-2 and IEC 60898-1 guarantees that it meets the requirements for professional installations – both as an overload protection device in distribution panels and as a component of a protective system in accordance with building standards.
