Overload and short‑circuit protection in 400 V installations
The h3+ P630 LSI 400A power circuit breaker provides effective protection for three‑phase circuits up to 690 V, especially where high inrush currents occur – e.g., when controlling motors, pumps or compressors. Its electronic LSI trip unit allows precise adjustment of the protection characteristic to the load type, eliminating unnecessary trips during short‑duration current flows.
Construction and user functions
The device has a fixed construction with front‑mounted terminals, facilitating installation in distribution cabinets without rear access. The terminals are screw‑type clamps – ideal for copper conductors, and a tightening torque of 18 Nm guarantees a secure contact without risking insulation damage. The status indicator (EIN/AUS/off) is visible on the lever, and an additional LED signals over‑current or internal temperature. It is equipped with a potential‑free contact alarm that closes at 90 % of the set overload current – providing early warning before tripping.
Breaking capacity and setting flexibility
The short‑circuit breaking capacity is 40 kA at 400 V – sufficient for most industrial and commercial installations. Settings are precise: overload current (Ir) can be set from 160 A to 400 A in steps, and the delayed short‑circuit trip (Isd) operates from 218.4 A to 4000 A. The overload delay time (tr) can be selected from 10 values ranging from 0.5 s to 16 s – allowing avoidance of false trips during motor start‑up. For instantaneous short‑circuits there is an instantaneous mode (li) adjustable from 3 × In to 12 × In.
Installation and operation
The device does not require DIN‑rail mounting – it is mounted directly on a panel or cabinet frame. It has an IP40 protection rating and operates from –25 °C to +70 °C. Optionally, a motor drive can be added – enabling remote control or system automation. All functions are accessible without opening the enclosure: windows show the settings and auxiliary contact status, and the trip unit can be tested with a button on the housing. The device is compatible with Hager diagnostic systems – allowing documentation of settings and fault analysis.
