Lightning protection in power installations
The T1 module with a protection level of 1.5 kV is designed for installation in L-N (or PEN-N) circuits in TN-S, TN-C and TT networks. Its impulse current withstand capability of 25 kA (10/350 µs) makes it the first level of protection in distribution systems – where there is a risk of a direct lightning strike or induction from a nearby strike.
It has integrated fuses that automatically disconnect the module in case of a fault, and its operation is indicated by an optical status indicator. Remote signaling via a contact enables integration with monitoring or alarm systems – useful in commercial or industrial facilities where protection status monitoring is mandatory.
Installation is on a DIN rail TH-15 mm and occupies 2 modules. Screw terminals accept solid and flexible conductors with a cross‑section of 35 mm², matching standard cables in distribution installations. The tightening torque is 4.5 Nm – sufficient to ensure a durable connection without risking conductor damage.
The IP20 protection rating limits its use to indoor applications only – it is not suitable for outdoor or damp locations. It operates in a temperature range from –40 °C to +80 °C, making it resistant to extreme conditions in switchgear cabinets even in cold climates.
Continuous operating voltage is 264 V and rated voltage 240 V, allowing safe operation in standard single‑phase systems. A residual current clearing capability of up to 50 kA guarantees that the module will not become a source of danger after activation – the downstream overcurrent protective device or fuse will not be damaged by prolonged fault current.
No additional overcurrent protective device is required – it integrates directly with the existing circuit protection. This solution is aimed at installers who want to save space and installation time while meeting the IEC 61643-11 requirements for T1 class.
