Safe Steel Connection with Leak Detection Function

The threaded steel fitting made of galvanized steel is a key component for connecting steel pipes to installations with internal threads. In the case of the nominal diameter 15 mm (1/2 inch) model, this coupling serves as a transition from the press-fit system to the traditional gas-tapered threaded connection (BSPT-Rc). Thanks to the use of low-carbon steel and an electroplated zinc layer with a thickness of 8–15 µm, this component exhibits high corrosion resistance, which is crucial in heating and water installations.

LBP Technology and O-Ring Sealing

One of the most important features of this fitting is the LBP (Leak Before Press) function. In practice, this means that if the installer forgets to press the connection, the system will automatically signal a leak during the pressure test. This is achieved through a special sealing design that allows for a controlled leak before proper crimping. This solution eliminates the risk of hidden failures after walls or floors are closed up.

The sealing is based on EPDM rings, which ensure tightness across a wide range of temperatures and pressures. The fitting features two types of connections:

• On one side: Press coupling designed for steel pipes in the Press system.
• On the other side: Gas-tapered internal thread (Rc 1/2"), which does not require additional sealing materials such as "thread sealant" or "tape", as the thread profile and O-ring sealing guarantee tightness.

Application and Practical Installation

This component is used where a transition from a steel pipe to a fitting or device with a 1/2-inch external thread is required. This is a typical solution when connecting radiators, thermostatic valves, or manifolds in steel installations. Installation requires the use of a hydraulic or manual press tool with an "M" profile, ensuring three-sided pressure on the seal and pipe.

Since the fitting is made of galvanized steel, there is no concern about mechanical damage during transport or installation in challenging construction conditions. The zinc layer thickness and chromic passivation protect against rust even in areas with elevated humidity. It is important to remember that during installation, care must be taken not to damage the zinc layer with tools, as this could accelerate corrosion in the future.

The key advantages of this solution include material corrosion resistance due to the zinc layer and safety resulting from the leak detection function before final system commissioning. This allows installers to be confident in the system's tightness without the need for additional sealing materials on the tapered thread, while end users gain a durable connection resistant to operational conditions in residential and industrial buildings.
