KEW3132A is an analog insulation resistance and continuity tester from the Japanese brand Kyoritsu, designed for control measurements in low-voltage installations. The device enables insulation testing at three test voltages - 250 V, 500 V and 1000 V - allowing for the verification of the condition of wires, distribution boards, and electrical devices in accordance with industrial standard requirements.

Construction and resistance to field conditions

The meter's housing provides an IP54 protection rating, which means it is dust-tight and resistant to water jets from any direction. Such protection makes the KEW3132A effective during outdoor work, in damp technical rooms, or on construction sites - where typical multimeters might struggle.

The device is equipped with a backlit scale, which facilitates reading results in poorly lit areas - typical for switchgear and control cabinets. The meter also features a measurement lock button (lock-down), allowing for long-term tests without the need to continuously hold the instrument in hand.

Measurement functions and operational safety

In addition to insulation resistance measurement, the device offers a circuit continuity test with a minimum measurement current of 210 mA DC. The higher test current compared to many competing models provides better sensitivity when detecting breaks in protective and working conductors.

The meter automatically signals the presence of voltage in the tested circuit before starting the insulation measurement - this function protects both the device itself and the person performing the measurements from measurement errors and potential damage. After completing the test, automatic discharge of the capacitance of the tested object eliminates the risk of electric shock when disconnecting the measurement leads.

Additionally, the KEW3132A measures AC voltage up to 600 V, allowing for preliminary verification of the installation status before proceeding to insulation tests.

Operation and compliance with standards

Simple operation based on a rotary switch and a clear analog scale means the meter does not require time-consuming training - it is suitable both for electricians performing routine periodic measurements and for service technicians responding to faults.
